no probs mark you only want some thin L shaped brackets of even some ali ones.
any more progress matey or is the mini taking over
the mini has completely taken over at the moment.it looks like ive sheared off one of the output shafts from the diff and they dont make them any more im trying to sorce a second hand one
if it aint broke, break it!
i got board of the mini and did some work on the old essey. finished grinding all the welds on the passenger floor and then primed then painted it
stage 20 020.jpg
stage 20 021.jpg
stage 20 024.jpg
then had a general look around the car for rust and found a few bubbles of rust under the paint
stage 20 019.jpg
it looks like somebody has reversed into something in the past and dameged the bumpper mount points a bit and its started to rust in the cracks
stage 20 029.jpg
stage 20 028.jpg
but apart from that all looks good from the front bulkhead back
stage 20 027.jpg
if it aint broke, break it!
keep at it mate
Love the arches....
Keep it coming,
Russ.
if it aint broke, break it!
it looks like both sides of the front chassis rails are completely gone along with the radiator cross member. so i had better get chopping away some more crud.

im toying with the idea of making a metal front bib thats welded to the front panel but not sure yet?
if it aint broke, break it!
nasty looking, that will keep you busy for a day or two
www.gulfpetrolheads.com
If i were you i would remove those wings and front panel and evaluate all the rot, there is going to more i fear.
Agreed, there will be nasties lurking under the front wings for sure. If you're careful taking them off you should be able to re-use them if necessary, alternatively I believe the GRP bubble arched wings from Old Ford Autos are meant to fit nicely.
You're definitely going to need a front panel and a radiator crossmember, so you may as well chop those off to ease your access for repairing the chassis legs.

thats certainly seen a few salty winter roads i would say
if it aint broke, break it!
thanks for the advise lads i cut some more crappy metal out yesterday but still thinking how to tackle this problem
if it aint broke, break it!
i think if i was to tackle that mess i would start by taking the front panel off and wings, then you can see exactly what youve got to do
Tackle it a bit at a time. The chassis legs are double skinned too, so you have to put the repairs in a skin at a time.
I don't know if this will help, but this page on my website shows how I did it.

I think id be looking at getting some good second hand front sections of chassis rails and chopping those out until you get to good metal, then since you have the inner wing bottom chopped out you can make sure the rails are welded in properly and if need be you can add in another plate behind the joint to weld to either piece of chassis rail to add more strength to the joint
But as said get the wings and front panel off for starters, you need to make sure the whole shell is sound with a rebuild thats this involving!
first off is there a trick to undoing the front antiroll bar/tie bar end bolts as i cant move them even with masses of wd40 and a long bar on the end of the ratchet. and yes i have taken out the split pin that runs through the castlelated nut. i allmost pulled the car off the axel stands trying to release them.
apart from that it seems that at some point that the front panel has been replaced as it is stitch welded on rather than spot welded, i have had a really good poke around under the wings and around the headlights and it all seems to be in good condition. i think the reason for the rust on the bottom of the front panel is due to the fact that it was in direct contact with the original rusty rad cross member. the rad cross member was very badly rusted and had been badly plated over several times concealing all the layers rot. the same goes for the chassis sections that attatch to the rad cross member too now this will all be cut out and replaced, it should all be fine afterwards without having to remove the wings/front panel. at least thats the plan anyway
if it aint broke, break it!
what's it like at the back of the wings, high up underneath where the top corners of the bulkhead are & the splash panel area??
both splash panels are still ziebarted? i think thats what its called? and are really good. the hinge panels are surprisingly good too.
if it aint broke, break it!
Yep lee will be rightthere must be some holes up there have a poke about inside the car above the parcel shelfs right up in the corner behind the bonnet pullNormally all the seam sealer is holding it together That said could be solid
might helpif ya need any more shoutand keep chopping
thanks for the pics they were helpfull
ive made a start on the chassis repairs today i think it should come together alright in the end
stage23 001.jpg
