ohhh & the 2.8i billies have a much thicker 'piston' part of the shock going up to the top mount - something about 40-45mm dia & there's a little thread/nut poking though the base of the strut tube/leg directly above the tca balljoint
These are Capri billies
It's possible to put non-vented disks on the capri hub, so that doesn't mean anything. It's possible you might have capri calipers, I would imagine they'd have larger pistons than 1300 escort ones.

it looks like the calipers are off of a capri but maybey not a 2.8i the piston size is 54mm so i have now sent off for the correct rebuild kit. if i get that sorted and replace a couple of brake lines then i can get it back on its wheels and have another look at the engine
if it aint broke, break it!
has anybody got a compresion tester?
if it aint broke, break it!
does anybody know where i can get a handbrake eqalizer strap for a mk1 escort? i cant seem to find one. failing that maybey some kind of option on how to repair or mod something to make it work. mine has completely broke in two.

Have you tried the escort breakers (escort-tec and GS escorts) ? failing that I might have a slightly tatty one you can have.

I got fed up with my 1300 engine and this came up local:
A Complete 711M 1600 Escort engine 115bhp spec. Kent KC234 fast road cam. Large bore twin choke Weber.
Ported GT/Mexico head. Bored +0.020 making it about 1620cc. with complete large bore ashley 4-2-1 exhaust system. complete rebuild 1 year ago with all ancillaries and a ap rally/race clutch. so went round it was still in a car heard it running and it sounded good so thought sod it ill have it. now i can take my time to rebuild the 1300 as a spare.

re the calipers, would you be able to post up the parts numbers as I have a couple of calipers which look similar?
ive got to work on the 6th of june but im gonna try and get the day off so i can come along. whats the plan anyways trig?
4drmatt : the only part number that i have is SP2589 for 54mm capri caliper rebuild kit, lots on the bay. [m16 calipers]

ive just taken the engine mounts off the 1300 and when i looked at them one is a bit longer than the other, but ive mixed them up and dont know what one came off of what side? is one supposed to be longer than the other and if so does anybody know what side to put them on? i think there transit mounts if that makes any difference?
ive got the exhaust hanger off of ebay which is the perfect material to use so now i can repair the handbrake equalizer bracket too.

i picked up a mt75 2wd 5 speed gearbox today. i wont be using it striaght away but it will be used at a later date.
its a Sierra 2000E MT75 5 speed gearbox from a low mileage car. Complete including all those hard to find additional pieces, such as: Gear selector linkage, stick, gaitor, speedo cable, clutch cable, clutch arm with rubber cover, reversing switch wiring and connector, both halves of the drive shaft with centre bearing, gearbox main cross member, flywheel, clutch pressure and driven plates, starter motor, and all of the bolts. ive taken the nice alloy rocker cover off the 1300 engine and i will shine it all up to go on the 1600. ive painted out the engine bay to tidy it up a bit untill it all gets resprayed later.

If you're going to use that alloy rocker cover, you'd be best to drill the flat circular area on the back end of the cover and fit a breather there, as the cap isn't vented unlike the standard xflow filler cap.

its hard to see in the pics but it does have a small vent hole in the cap but its not very big so what u said is on my to-do list. with this rocker cover i noticed when i fitted it that two of the rockers rub on the inside of the cover where the bolts to secure it go, so these areas will need to be grinded back a bit to get it to clear. its only because it cant move over to the left any more because of the carb is in the way

apart from welding some brackets to the floor to mount the front seats. when i took it for a test run up the back lane yeasterday cause the seats not attatched as i hit the accelerator the seat would tilt back then i would have to pull myself back up by the steering wheel resulting in me kangaroo-ing up the lane but apart from that all was good.

i got the bonnet back on today, and did a few other small jobs like drilling out the rivets that hold the trim around the windows. then tryed to give it a bit of a clean. then tryed to see what my revolutions would look like on, ive not got any spare money for wider wheels at the moment so ill be using these 7x 13 revolutions on it with maybey some inch and a half spacers behind them?
im really starting to like this metalic purple colour today in direct sunlight it looked amazing and i am still trying to decide if i should keep the car like it is or not. and what to do with the vinyl roof? apart from the edges coming unstuck slightly its perfect!
if it aint broke, break it!
been following this, looks cracking, you guna run it as a primer slag then? that last pic looks ace, it wants painting alan mann colours na..
result to get it moving looks cool
its gonna be a primer slag for a while just to get it through the m.o.t. then i can drive it and sell the mini to release some much needed funds to spend on it. rollcage, strut brace, anti dive kit, m16 calliper spacer kit with capri groved and vented disks to name a few mods. i would like to steal bubble it aswell but we will see how things pan out. first i got to do some cosmetic work on my mini to sort that out, the good thing is it just passed the m.o.t. with flying colours not even an advisory!
if it aint broke, break it!
ive got one problem , all four of my the revolutions that i got with the car leak air i hoped it was the valves but it looks like its leaking from the rim edges. the tyre treads look to be allmost new but they keep going flat. is it possible to get them released and resealed back to the rim edges. or do i have to fork out for a set of tyres? the thing thats worrying me is there is no date on them and i dont know how many years they have been sitting in the previuos owners garage for?
if it aint broke, break it!
It's very common for old alloys to leak from around the tyre bead due to corrosion, most tyre places should be able to deflate the tyres and push them off the bead so they can clean away the corrosion and apply sealant.
