so i take it the 1.6 sierra friction plate will fit between the xflow flywheel and diaphram thats a smaller diameter, and slot onto the gearbox spline is that what ur sayin?

i think it;s the 1600 sierra/capri plate si the same diameter as the x-flow one just that it has the spline to suit the 5 speed input shaft hence same x-flow flywheel, cover & starter but i also think the release bearing might be a different one too.

right it seems that burton sell a 190mm xflow a.p. clutch friction plate that has accepts the correct 1" x 23 teeth spline that fits the mt75 and type 9 gearboxes. so this will prob be the one i get

i got a pm off neilm i take it he works at 105 speed then. they do a a.p. clutch plate on its own for £45 which is about £20 cheaper than burton do them for.

anyone know where the best place to take a ignition switch live from the wiring for a oil pressure light?

i picked up six period 13" x 8" compomotive cx wheels today, there in pretty good condition just need minior curb marks taken off and painting then polish up the outer edges and they should come up really nice. i tryed them on for size and they fit well bringing the wheel edge out to the arch how i wanted. so im well happy

right then with these alloy wheels that i cant be arsed to get all the paint off the inside of the spokes with paint stripper. so does anybody know of a acid dipping or sandblasting place in bristol that would remove all the paint for me? and i would like the outer rims polished up to a mirror finish any ideas how to achive this with some diy kit or if there is a polishing place in bristol that are good?

thanks for the comments i do like these wheels as there so retro there were a few bubbles under the vinal roof so off it came, i hate rust! and all the roof looks to be in good condition just one or two small patches of surface rust so happy days i also hade a go at tidying one wheel up a bit with a nilon drill bit and wire wheeled the inside with and angle grinder which worked a treat but i still want to polish up the outer rim some more.

Re: mk1 escort 1300e purple warior

right then this is what im trying to sort out now: when i had my 1300 xflow int the car it was rigged up to a oil pressure gauge through the usual capilary oil pressure sender, but now i have changed the engine for a 1600 xflow the oil sender on the new block was a oil pressure sender that connects to a light. i here you say yes just remove that and swap it with the one from the 1300 unit. this is what i thought but after the engine was fitted i tried to remove the oil light sender from the 1600 and it was fucking impossible to remove without snapping it of completely, and it looks like some one had already had a good go aswell rounding of a few flats! not wanting to remove the engine again to have the remains of the sender machined out of the block after breaking it off i decided to leave it well alone. untill reading through the new 2011 burton book i saw a sandwich plate that could be screwed between the oil filter housing and the filter that has a adapter for a oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge, perfect i thought.

Re: mk1 escort 1300e purple warior

so my plan now is to have the original oil warning light sender conected to a oil waRNING LIGHT ON THE DASH SOMEWHERE and have the sandwich plate running my oil pressure gauge and at a later date a oil temp gauge aswell. but burton state several different sizes of outlets on the sandwich plate and im not sure what size the o.e. oil pressure sender would be as burton show 2 senders in there book.

    a 1/8npt and 1/4 npt senders

the sandwich plate outlet sizes they state are:
    3 x 1/8npt outlets
    2 x m10x1 + 1 x 1/8npt outlets
    1 x 3/8bsp + 2 x 1/8npt outlets
    1 x 5/8unf + 2 x 1/8npt outlets

now im really confused? can anybodey shine any light on this for me as im not sure what one to order, and it would be nice to know i have good oil pressure or not.
    thanks

Assuming it's a later 711m type block the oil pressure sender will be 1/4 npt. only the early 681 blocks were 1/8 npt.

    http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthre...-Thread-thread

So, to make that sandwich plate work you'd need to get 1/8 - 1/4 NPT (or BSP) adapters.

i picked up the clutch plate i was looking to get 190mm with a 23 splines so i could start to mock up the mt75 gearbox i got with my old 1300 xflow

    rally weld fabrications gearbox tunnel

after a bit of messing about i managed to get it all bolted up to the xflow

looks like i can retain my escort original clutch cable at this point but we will see?

i think this is a electronic spedo drive, this will have to be changed for a mechanical one.

but i have no idea what this cable is

or it might be the other way round

it seems that the clutch arm with the release bearing on it moves about 1 inch before it touches the diaphram so i might need to get some kind of extention or replace the bearing with one that is close to an inch thicker. so this is what i will be looking into sorting out next, then theres spedo drive reversing light switch and drive shaft stuff to think about. oh and gearbox mounts!

i thought i would check that my new wheel nuts fit ok and for clearance on the rear arches just trying to figure out what size tyres to go for. it looks like 205-235/60/r13 will be okay but 205's seem to be easier to get hold of

they seem to clear the arches okay
