    Mk2 Escort Steering Rack identification

    Hi there,
My Mk2 1600 Sport is a long way off being road-worthy, but one job I wanted to tackle was seeing whether I could salvage the current steering rack to get the car on the road, without having to stump up for a replacement one (I would probably go for a 2.9 ratio if I have to replace).
The track rod ends and gaitors are knackered, and I've also got about 1mm of play in the o/s inner track rod.

On dismantling the rack, it looks like the inner track rod is a different design to what I was expecting, so I am wondering if this has come from a different car.

Does anybody recognise this rack? So that I can go about buying some replacement inner track rods.
The thread on the end of the rack is M14x1.75, and the thread for the track rod ends is 14mm diameter (didn't check thread spacing)

    Thanks very much,
    Tom

On the mk1 & mk2 Escorts Ford used two suppliers for their steering racks: ’Burman’ & ‘Cam Gears’. I didn’t see a Cam Gears rack at all but plenty of Burman racks, they of the 3 mm pin lock type. I’m guessing this is the Cam Gears product.

Hi Frenchenstein, thanks for the reply. The car is a South African 1600 Sport if it makes any difference.
The only place I can find that does an inner track rod that may fit is Rally Design with their replacement inner rods for their quick racks.
With shipping, the cost of two inner rods, two track rod ends, gaitors and new rack mount rubbers, it's circa £100, whereas I can pick up a 2.9 quick rack from Peter Lloyd Rallying (local) for £110 minus track rod ends, but I beleive I may need to buy a longer universal joint for the steering column for it it mate up? Can anyone comment on what a 2.9 rack is like for a solely road-spec slightly hopped-up mk2?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Just fitted a 2.4 rack and it feels like my 2015 mondeo now... little bit more steering force needed but all in all much better then standard 4 turn rack.
Will add powersteering for the misses but not needed for me.
