pug 406 hdi gearbox issue

the story so far...........
during the week i started to get problems finding gears after going to neutral on roundabouts/lights etc. stick would baulk an any position where it should have gone into gear, rattle it about a bit, jam it in and off we go.
i then noticed a slight "snick" from 3rd to 4th as if clutch not fully home.

then i couldnt get it into 4th at all. all the other gears seem to be fine and the change is a1 up/down box but 4th cannot be engaged.(stick wont go in)

ive looked at the gear linkage on the box and it appears ok, i couldnt "help" it in by hand.....

ive heard that these boxes "drop a bearing" which affects various gears ???
anyone have any experiance with them at all ???

Cant say I know what fails on them, although all the old pugs used to blow a hole in the case, from bearing failure I believe
But im sure the later 90 bhp 406 box is more popular for failure then the 120bhp box.
They aren’t interchangeable either as rev is in the wrong place
