well according to classic ford magazine i "instigated" this project, and "helped" bring mk2 grilles to the market,, so i dont think there will be any honours list for that,,
this is the same magazine that had west wales rally spares new mk 2 grilles as commended in the product of the year ..
ill have to stop buying it,, it depesses me. ha ha ha ha ha

The prices that I've seen are £350 for standard ones and £530 for RS/Mex type.

Someone on OSF was quoted a lot more for them by Hadrians than Cleveland are offering them at.

Just a quick question, we have the opportunity to buy some Mk1 escort & escort mexico wings, they are brand new from hadrian panels.
The standard escort wings are £230 + vat per side and the mexico ones are £360 per side would be anyone be interested?

ohh how i would love to retail them,, but i have no premises or outlet, and to be honest, i need to sell in bulk or i will get it back in dribs and drabs and spend it as i recieve it, the investment was too big, so i need someone who has a decent customer base to sell them,
all i wanted was to do it, and prove that i could, as it was becoming like a fairy story,, will they, wont they,,
i had no engineering or manufacturing backgound, just a touch of madness and willingness to spend near 3 yrs at this, if i sell enough, i will make my money back and some,, but its a long way off yet,,

now a little info on this,
firstly the samples we used as a template were at least 35 yrs old and had previously been fittted to a car,
had a thick underseal coating inside and had rolled arch lips, this created huge huge problems when trying to copy them, i also sent 2 std wings to get the arch profile right for std wing,
on measurinng (with modern laser equipment) all 4 were found to be different, this alone was the subject of over a month of late night internet dialouge between me an julia who rapidly began to learn both about escorts and my short temper,
after 18 months and alot f money a pair arrived, and even before i took them out of the packin i nearly got sick, frantic long mobile(read huge bills) phone calls to both scream and curse at a haplees julia who in fairness was assured by the factory that these were good.
so tool scrapped and start again, (more smart coments on different forums) this time she used a different factory and a differnt and way more expensive process,
and back to the begining with the sizes and differences, i ordered her to sign off on the 2nd hand mex wings as our base, as no pattern mex wings were ever made, but to also refer to the std ones fr certain reference points, in other words if it was wrong from now,, it was her(my) fault as she signed on my behalf,
since then on average 4 to 5 nights a week 8 hours fromm midnight to morn i was online to china, often 3 days without sleep as i still had a day job,
now here is the cruel part, i often orderd julia to go to factory to check sometimes even a simple thing,, and would be told i go tomorrow, yet never told it takes a 10hour 1 way bus ride to get there,no train runs there, i found this out personally when i went there,
this is only the tip of the iceberg intrying to explain how this was done, and without julias dedication not a hope lads, neither she or i knew **** all about tool making,, now we bloody well do, there are over 26 tools in all to make these wings, icluding 4 main tools, 2 large folding tools, and numerous smalller and weird lookin jigs and tools, there were hundreds of wings pressed to get the metal to even stretch without splitting, as the wings have a huge fold compare to any modern wings (top of wing), the tech guys there had to re learn old skills,
i know they aint 100% perfect, but i also discovered hardly any 2 shells were the same, or for sure any 2 wings having had 4 different ones out there, so its as good as i can get them,,
appologies for any fettling that may have to be done,,
to be honest if we were to factor in all the time this took both in mine and julias, u guys have cheap cheap wings,

it will also do lots of other stuff,, but ist main purpose was for ford escort wings, and they have never even seen a real escort,, dont know what they are missing..

Yeh really experienced a lot and learned a lot. Many difficulties at the beginning, no perfect samples and got wrong factory etc. So much pressure even cried for it. Going to factory which is very far away again and again to check the procedure and quality. The last two years for the wings I found myself getting older.

Must thanks John to make it happen and he made me learn a lot, both in FORD ESCORT CAR and in doing business. He is really a good teacher for me. Especially in the hard time of Ireland economic, he still keep on this project, I shall hat off for him.

While looking the happy posters from the customers who got the wings, I found lots of meaning in it. Regardless all the pressure and suffered, I find myself love it sooo much. It’s really a wonderful gift for my Christmas. Thank you for all your attentions!

well i did try to drum up support for shells,, but it wasnt happening, perhaps no one believed i was serious,, or willing to see this thru,, trust me,, if i say i will,, then i will.. this is my 3rd ford item,, mk2 round lamp grilles, mk2 new full ind units for front and now mk1 wings both mexico and std, the factory i had chosen for the shells was far more advanced than the one that made the wings,, so i had not one bit of doubt as to the quality of the finished item,
perhaps now,, i should try again, DRAGONS DEN?? hmmmmmmm
i imagine if i went to them about grilles, or the wings they would laugh at me,,,,
