    Rust in fuel tank

    Hi

Does anyone have any experience in removing rust from inside a fuel tanks
    ?

My MK1 Escort fuel tank has rust rattling around in side... Not sure how to proceed with sorting it... Is it DIY'able or are there company's out there that do this sort of thing?

    Thanks

Hi, you could try taking it to a powdercoaters and get them to acid dip it. Alot of wheel restorers acid dip the wheels to remove the paint/powder coating

Trouble is you may find after this that you have holes where the rust used to be!

Look up Petrol Tank Sloshing (http://www.rust.co.uk/slosh-ethanol-...k-seal/p405062) they also have a cleaner to be used to remove rust before sealing the tank with the "slosh"

    Rust in fuel tank

Citric acid overnight will do it or if you don't have a few gallons then get some bilt hamber powder and mix it yourself. After u drain it keep the liquid to de rust other stuff. You will need to treat after cleaning as it will be fresh steel and rust quickly
    Frost do tank coatings.

A lot of radiator type repair shops can also tackle that sort of thing.

And there are various treatments to offer a new surface inside the tank to protect it and seal it up again.

    Re: Rust in fuel tank

On my older bikes with metal tanks I use new small ball bearings to get the worst of the rust out then coat the inside of the tank with an expoxy coating although for some tanks it may be expensive

    It's this stuff here
