    id rs struts

recently pulled off the struts from the mk1.going to convert to coil overs but not sure of inserts to use.they had the inserts which are held in with the c spanner style screw on top of the strut.
the insert was sitting in a bath of oil/liquid.
appears the valving takes in the oil and releases it with off/on load.thick piston as well.
they were well hard on the road to.....

They look like Capri struts to me.
Bolt on steering arms on disc struts normally mean RS or Capri.
That's as far as my expertise goes

A mate had 3 litre capri struts, he may still have them in his shed, they were similar looking thick pistons. i'll see if he still has them and take a pic.

    Re: id rs struts

Those are definitely Capri struts, as opposed to Escort RS...and they're definitely not 3.0L Capri either (the 3 litre has a different type of hub and stub axle spindle size).

    Hope that helps a bit...

    Re: id rs struts

am i correct in saying that all mk1 standard struts had bolt on steering arms and theese are sometimes confused with rs items. i know the holes have different spacings.

Not sure about all of them, I think some were cast, but the answer is generally yes.
