Pinto coolant sensor in the coolant drain plug

    Hi,

I'm looking for some info regarding putting a coolant sensor where the coolant drain plug goes on a pinto engine. I need one for the ecu and I don't fancy mucking around trying to fit it elsewhere.

I've done a fair bit of googling regarding the subject but I just end up with conflicting information.

I believe a sensor from a zetec will fit?? But there are a few different types of sensors fitted to a zetec and trying to buy one from a french motorfactors is impossible without knowing the exact year, model, part number and the middle name of the guy who fitted the wiper blades to the car at the factory when it was new.

Does anyone know the part number of a sensor that will fit?? Or prehaps someone can confirm the thread of the drain plug...I think it's 3/8npt...but I have been known to be wrong on many occasions

    thanks,

    Kevin.

Personally I wouldn't recommend having a temp sensor in a 'relatively' cool part of the engine. I've got mine mounted in the stat housing so it gets the hottest water - used a common GM sensor for mine M12 thread.

as above you need the sensor where the temperature is hot, either fit it in the inlet manifold water take off, or if your carefull you can drill and tap the head to take one along side the oe temp sensor, you have to be careful to both miss the manifold and head bolt hole.

Just fit a t piece where the current temp gauge sender is or in line in the top rad hose using a t piece, or thermostat housing which will be the same as fitting in to the top rad hose.

i run a pinto on efi with the sensor in the drain plug, you can get an alloy adaptor that screws straight in the block and then the sensor goes in that.
