    Mk2 bias pedal box conversion

    Hi Folks.

I'm wanting to convert my standard Mk2 pedal box to a dual master bias assembly. I have searched on here (and every where else) for some detailed drawings of what is modified to accomodate. I have found limited info regarding the Twin Cam mk1 pedals but nothing specifically on the mk2 items.

My main concern are the dimensions of the extra material added to the top of the pedal to accomodate the tube for the bias bar bearing etc.

    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers

    Paul

    Thanks to all replies.

I already have this manual and had a look at the link to ensure the same content.

I cannot find specific diagrams to modify a Mk2 pedal - am I misiing something? I'm after a side view explaining what to add to the top of the pedal to house the bias bar tube - the rest is pretty straight forward.

Re: Mk2 bias pedal box conversion

there is a copy of classic ford that shows exactly what you need, it has a green space framed cossie powered rs2000 on the cover, i dont know what month, im in it aswell! from a side view you need to mount the balance bar tube almost directly above the pedal pivot point, with the centre of tube around 50mm from the centre of the pivot point.

cut off the return spring arm so both sides of the pedal are the same, square across. mock up where the balance bar tube needs to go, you will have to make two little infills to join the pedal to the tube and fully weld these. i usually use 2.5 mm mild. then you need to add strength, cut a piece of mild about 25mm wide by around 150mm long, weld this to the front of the pedal just above the pivot point and then bend it up and over the balance bar tube and down the back of the pedal, your welding needs to be spot on, your car not crashing into something depends on it!

if this is still not clear i will try and get a photo up.

Thanks - just what I was after as I'm not 100% on the placement of the bias tube in relation to the pivot point.

If you can attach a pic with some measurements would be fantastic. I have seen that article but it doesn't give you any dimensions.

Re: Mk2 bias pedal box conversion

ill weld one up and post the picture when ive done it. if you weld the tube 50mm (centre to centre) away you get approx 5 to 1 pedal ratio. if you work out the existing ratio of the pedal with standard master cylinder its about 4 to 1. obviously the higher the ratio the more effort you can exert on the cylinders for a given push, but you have to bear in mind available pedal travel and master cylinder travel, 5 to 1 works out just nicely for mk1 and mk2 pedal boxes. good luck and ill get back on with a picture or two.

    Hi Clint.

Thanks but I have the Prep book but it only gives specific instructions to modify a Twin Cam Mk1 pedal box which differs from the standard Mk2 item - or am I missing something?

    Cheers

Re: Mk2 bias pedal box conversion

pics of pedal conversion, ive taken photos of the original article that was in classic ford, hope this helps, one tip i could pass on is that if you save the two pieces that you cut from the side of the pedal box to clear the bias bar you can use these to make the pedal, as you can see from the photo if you do it the same as i do the bits you have left over already have a nice curved edge ready to weld to the bias bar tube, all you have to do is cut them down to suit and weld away, otherwise just make some from scratch.

i may be doing feature for classic ford detailing how to do these conversions, nothing concrete yet but in talks!

    cheers and happy new year

Re: Mk2 bias pedal box conversion

    Hi Guys,
I am doing the same conversion and have the same issues. Reading this post has given me some more info but I don't have the edition of classic ford.
Would you be able to post more pictures from the article in classic Ford?.
Ant help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Alan.

If you can find an Ebook of this publication Ford Escort Rally Preparation manual there is drawings and dimensions in there.
There is a copy on the forum here but I couldn't make the link work.
But that might just be trying to do it on my phone.

This is the link on here.

    Hope that helps.
