    Kawasaki ZXR250A

Anyone fancy a ZXR250A? 1989 F reg, MOT to April 09 and taxed until March 09. 11,600 km on clock, so about 6,500 miles. Revs to 20k rpm, although red line starts about 19k. 250cc 4 stroke, new chain and sprockets, new oil and filter, new air filter, new iridium spark plugs, new pads, new fuel tap, spare engine, ignition pack, wheel, tyres, carbs, etc.

I bought it as a commuter bike, but broke down just 2 miles after buying it, was not best impressed. Turned out to be a siezed choke cable and split diaphragm in no.2 carb, now sorted. While I was waiting/sourcing parts for it I ended up buying a ZXR400 which I will now be keeping.

OK, it's 20 years old and has scratches in places and the left side fairing has a crack in it by the fuel tap, now glued back together. With new pads on it there is a bit of friction so although the bike can be pushed and ridden it needs a little bit more effort until pads have worn in. Starting can be an issue as the carbs neeed priming? New to me anyway. It simply means you cannot jump on it and ride from cold as it is bound to cough and die. Once warmed up, it revs nice and easy and rides without a problem, although I only have about 100 miles use from it to judge it on. It commuted to/from London fine on that occassion. I have spare carbs which may sort the starting issue.

Looking for £950. Rare bike, but parts do sometimes come up on ebay and I have sourced service items online.

The bike is what it is, so if interested and want to view, don't criticise me and offer silly money for it! Located in Basildon.

Bad pictures I know, so will try and get some more done when I have time and there is daylight! Yes, I also know the garage is a disgrace and seriously untidy!

Yeah, the 400 in the background came from Bikeworld. Bought it with 2950 on the clock now it has just over 4000 just a month or so later!

The 250 is good fun, especially high revs, but still needs a little bit of work to tidy up. Still a blinding bike for the age and still has low mileage.

Good luck with the test. What bike are you looking at for a first bike?

There's a few option's open atm mate but gonna wait till the tests over, cnt imagine anything much worse thn having the bike there knowing ya can't ride it!!

Theres sam's Blue ZXR400 i told ye about a while back
Another guy at work maybe selling his VFR400
But my mates dads jus finished restoring/repairing a VTR Firstorm, maybe a bit hefty for a 1st bike, but atleast after a few years of ridin i won't be bored of it!!
Black, done bout 15k think its a 98/99 model will want about £1200 for it so holding out for that!

Eitherway i'm only in benfleet so will have to meet up post test!!

    Re: Kawasaki ZXR250A

Deffo for a rideout when you pass and we can get a few other chaps from here to meet up. I only ever ride the bike for commuting, so would be nice to enjoy it for a change without pre-fixed routes and times etc.

Hmmmm, VFR400. I had a look for one of these as well but none for sale while I was looking. As you have options, have a sit and/or ride on each one if possible. I have bought bikes before which were so wrong for me that they only lasted a week or 2. The best bike for my circumstances should have been the GS500 to commute on, but I hated it. The best bike I owned by far was my GSXR600 K1 (my first big bike after test) which suited me down to the ground, but I foolishly sold it to try something else. If only bike test rides were as simple as car test drives!

Bottom line is feel comfortable and confident with the bike you decide upon and don't necessarily go for the fastest one, etc. The ZXR250 is on ebay and so many offers to buy it without seeing it that I am declining them to hopefully find a genuine sale. Surely it makes common sense to view and sit on a bike before committing to it? Just my personal thought.

Yep, and if I had seen your bike for sale I would have bought it as well! Lovely looking bike.

Ok, just dawning on me that I may have been talking bollox previously! As we all know, most of us buy bikes as they look good and are fast!

Good news is that the ZXR250 sold tonight to a happy chap. Now left with one bike, one car and one secret of a mk2 escort stored away in a garage several miles from home! Will tell the missus one day!

This has been crossing my mind about suspension as well. My ZXR400 is far too hard and as the A13 has a few lumps and bumps in it, I find myself getting chucked up in the air when the bike hits them. No wonder I have a bad back!

Hopefully if I get time soon I will check out how to soften it up.

However the firestorm fits the bill perfectly so we shall see.
Theory Test now out of the way as of this mornin so roll on feb20th lol.
Whereabouts in basildon are ya? Those garages remind me of my mates place jus off of redgrave road/ vange hill drive???

Ah So not far from Wesgate and Kats club

After 4 failed attempts tryna contact SMT (jus a few doors down from bikeworld)
I went with PROBIKE in Billericay, The whole lot inc the theory and CBT was jus shy of £700.
Test will be at basildon too (Paycock Rd) which is a touch as i know basildon pretty well!!

    Re: Kawasaki ZXR250A

I went with Probike in Billericay for my CBT and done the main test in Hornchurch since I done my driving test there about 16 years back. I had the chief examiner there and he is a blinding chap. Told a few jokes to chill you out at the start and makes you feel completely at ease with the test. 10 out of 10 for him. Ok, pulled me up on 2 minors for not filtering (which I normally do anyway!), but his call end of the day.
