RWD ranger sump on MK1 escort duretec

I have acquired an american ford ranger sump which uses the 2.3 duratec, it bolts straight on to my 2.0 and after some measurements looks like it will fit the escort nicely with no modifications to the bulkhead or cross member.

My problem now is that i need a pickup pipe, why not just use a ranger 2.3 pipe i hear you ask? well the 2.3 oil pump is sightly different so i'd have to buy one of those too which is is costly when i'm trying to keep the costs down. (I have a brand new 2.0 pump anyway)

Has anybody done the dura conversion using this sump, how did you overcome this problem?
How much do you reckon an engineering shop woud charge to make one?

Can you not make one yourself or modify? Machine shop would not be economical compared to buying off the shelf pump. Imho

At the minute i'm leaning towards just buying the 2.3 pump and a ranger pickup, i was kind of hoping that there was a standard rwd pickup that woud just bolt on.

I'm still considering making my own pickup but cant afford to make any mistakes with such an integral part

Should get the 2.5 oil pump, its supposedly higher volume than the 2.3 and 2.0 pumps. And I know the ranger pickup fits it because I had one installed for a bit before I decided to use the mx5 one.

yeah i have also read that the 2.5 pump has a higher capacity, many lads on the caterham forums use that pump as an upgrade over the standard 2.0 pump.

Then get the 2.5 pump and range pickup. You'll love to hear that the ranger pickup is an actual piece of metal tube with a metal flange instead of the weirdly shaped plastic piece that is the rest of the mzr/duratec pickup tubes.

I'm looking at doing this conversion to my escort van. Where did you get your sump and pick up from?

I live in Brazil and here we have a lot of Ford Ranger 2.3 Duratec, if you need any parts I can try to find it for you. I think is the same as the USA version.
Itīs good to hear that the sump is compatible with the Escort crossmember, since here in Brazil we have a lot of Rangers and the sump is kind of easy to find and much cheaper than import a Retroford sump.

If you donīt mind, could you please share pictures of your instalation?
Duratec engine is an upgrade that I intend to do in a near future.

Is your sump the same as the one below?

Hello yes that is the sump, i have read a lot of conflicting things online regarding this set up but can 100% confirm that the 2.3 ranger sump as above fits the duratec, and the 2.3 oil pickup pipe perfectly fits the standard 2.0 duratec pump with no clearance issues.

I trimmed the lip off the back of my cross member, however i dont actually think this was necessary and i reckon it would have gone in without the trim.

Ill try and get some pics up when i get a moment

It depends on which 2.0 you have. Its its the mx5 2.0 you want to use that one. But if its a normal non-vvt 2.0 you might as well just use the whole ranger engine since its the same head and you get an extra free 0.3L of displacement.

hmmmmm thats got me thinking now, the engine im building at the moment is just to get me up and running but when i come to build a 'better' replacement ill consider the 2.3 ranger bottom end.
I'm after the newer fiesta ST head with the higher flowing head

Just get a 2.5 from a modern Ford or Mazda. It's got the best flowing heads and the strongest factory bottom end of the motors without direct injection. The focus St head will fit the old duratec bottom ends but you'll need the st or rs pistons to work with the direct injection.

Holy thread revival - this is 4-5 years old and the OP hasn't been back on the site for over two years so its a lost cause!
