Can i run a cvh turbo in rwd?

Hi all can anyone tell me what box i would need to run a cvh in a rwd escort? if it can be done.
I would want a turbo engine but would need to keep the size down so cant fit a 2 litre.
Car is running capri crossmember so dont have a clue if it can be done and what engine mountings i would need.

It has been done before, also im pretty sure the rwd cvh sierras are on a t9. There has been a few posts on here about rwd cvh turbos and the main problem that crops up is the turbo facing the wrong way. Do a search and you will find more info

Re: Can i run a cvh turbo in rwd?

There is two versions of the type 9,N1 and N3. N1 was fitted to 1.6-2.3 engines. The N3 was fitted to all XR4i's
    N1 gear ratios are 1st)3.65 2nd)1.97 3rd)1.37 4th)1.00 5th)0.82
    N3 gear ratios are 1st)3.36 2nd)1.81 3rd)1.26 4th)1.00 5th)0.83
Some 2 litre pintos had the N3 version.
I'm not too clued upon gear ratios,so I'm not too sure if the XR4i type 9 has advantages over the N1 type 9.

I think the 2 litre one is best why not check what ratios the std rst box had and work out gearing from that i know the v6 box has a longer input sharft so doesnt work but retro ford at corby does a spacer plate so it works hope this helps..

Re: Can i run a cvh turbo in rwd?

yes you can RWD a cvh. dont bother with the sierra 1.8 cvh though as its renowned to be pap compared to the proper rs turbo cvh. a type 9 sierra 5 speed bolts straight onto a cvh and early zetec block with no mods needed. you will need to fit a spigot bearing to the crank. this is a standard pinto bearing. both cvh and early zetec are machined already to take this bearing so just needs pressing in. clutch- i found it more straight forward to have the flywheel redrilled to take a pinto clutch. less sodding around with mix and match parts. so with that done, you ready to go lmao! well not quite. forget the T2 as it runs out of puff at around 5000rpm although its fairly lag free but ultimatly id stick to a T3 and have a proper stainless manifold made to sit the turbo the correct way round. i made my own-

the only other thing you going to need to make provisions for is the thermostat housing as its big and bulky and sits on the back of the cylinder head

id recommend it though! its a great little engine (to me anyway lol)

Re: Can i run a cvh turbo in rwd?

i think your right about that starter. i seem to remember reading somwhere about that one was the one to use. however, i used a 1.8 sierra cvh one as i used the 1.8 zetec bottom end and flywheel. that starter will do both cvh and zetec-type 9 installations id have thought

and sorry chap, but im not up for making another manifold as this took 3 days+ to mock up and make but there are specialists out there who can do much better than me anyway
