    What's the chains for?

Hey, just got a mk2 rs2000 off eBay, had a look under it and someone's welded chains from the front of the bell housing back to the gearbox mounts. I've owned a few escorts and I've never felt the need to grab some chain and fire up the mig lol what, if anything is the purpose of them? Cheers!

Maybe someone thought the immense power would tear the gearbox clean off....

Whats the funny plate the chains are attached to doing? Maybe the bolts kept rattling out (WCXM?) and they decided it was a surefire way of keeping the gearbox from falling out?

Don't think I have ever seen anything as bizzare, but people do some very strange things!

ive seen similar on oval racing cars, a sudden stop causing the engine to fly forward and break its mounts, or put the fan through the rad or even let the prop drop out the box
