What is this relay used for on Escort Mk2

I have a Lotus 7 which was build using Escort Mk2 parts. This relay is installed under the dash but for the life of me cannot figure out what is using it, or what it is supposed to do.

Any idea what it was used for on Escorts?

    Relay with a fuse.....

Ahh Tx. Do you know if it does any anything special, like change polarity or something.....i have weird thing happening on my car. When i switch my lights on, anything else that is earthed with instrumentation/auxilary lights goes dead. ie, ECU and Acewell Digidash.

Is it just a normal relay? Why is it in a steel casing with steel mounts? Why does it have a fuse?

its a relay nothing more, no it doesnt change polarity or anything wierd, its steel because its old, and the fuse is just protection, most likely when it was origonally fitted it was wired into either a non fused circuit, or an already fused circuit but one where the fuse rating was too high in relation to what was being powered by the relay.

your lighting issue sound more like a bad earth somewhere

This relay was mounted on top of the near side inner wing of the Mk 2 RS2000 (possibly other models) It was there to protect the stalk switch from the current drawn and consequently burning out, when on Main Beam, as all four headlamps would be on together. I had to run two relays back in the day when I put High power bulbs in all four lamps (90/130W H4s and 130W H1) not road legal, but all you had to do was bend the tab on the bulb and hope you did not get caught.
    Happy New Year
