day off was this friday so i made my bulk head bit of a job to bend it but hear it is

got most of my jobs done so i wipped off to the garage and cut that nasty bulk head
right out after making some carefull plans of size and position of every thing


then poped the new one in place this one is cut back a bit
to give more room for the st water pipes

thanks mk2 wizard it did take a bit of working out, so after lunch i cut the tunnel back
a bit as the type 9 box had no more than 5 - 10 mm in places

mini is as good as the day i left it there 7 years ago and the escort only
needed the under wing splash shelds welding

well got the wing off got a bit of work to do hear i think

a piller is gone so spent hours getting door off sill top gone too
all went wrong today twins playing up welder not feeding wire
smooth door pins were a pig even though i welded a nut on
them last time so i could just use a chisel to get them out but
that did not work so i drilled the door and used the sledge
worked a treat but this door is scrap anyway

then drilled off the spot welds on heater bubble

so i could cut top bulk head out

made new bulk head top and tacked it in need to order full sill
a piller pan and top plate for this side so i can crack on later
this week

just cleaning and welding to the good steel will cut the rest
as it's strong enough to take it then in with more fresh steel

i ve done all the floor pans about 7 years ago and both rear
arches for the second time so the backs not that bad this time


seen yours you done fare bit as well, its only rust just cut and
weld will get there in the end.

Yep, it's amazing how your mindset changes when you start cutting big lumps out and welding new stuff in. The small stuff I used to get excited about before, pales into insignificance

done a few hours today got a new a piller to go on so i cut off
the old one

had to repair inner door piller as the lower front edge was rusted
as well

have ground the rust off and put rust killer on

was taking ages to dry so made up windscreen corner panel
needs bit more work will fit this later left it to dry now till the
weekend

quick update been busy with garden and stuff so got out there
this morning to weld a piller back on

cut bulk head end out so it was easyer to get clamps on a piller
and half ready for end to go on

got the bulk head end back on too need to get it off the ramp
so it needs to be strong

sprayed zinc on the welds
put the door back on to make sure it still fits

hammer and dolly takes ages but cheeper than expressed

cut the repair panel off was well strong

2 cutting disk later and a good grind back left the cup
in place to line up new top plate

been away for weekend to wales an escort mk1 i seen in a field
last time i was there 2 years ago is still there looks like its
been ripped in half will try the get pic off my phone...
done a bit more yesterday painted my new wcx member ready to fit

cut out old nuts and welded in new tubes cleand out and found some strong steel
will put the rust killer on this then zinc it

small up date been busy with the twins and garden/house
got a few hours in and wasted most of it trying
to get welder to work againe so got the new one set up now

How on earth that thing is that rusty? I understood it was stored? Where? in a salt water pond? Even the allready done floorpans are rusty so either the paint was utter crap or the storage has been really, really damp.(and the paint was crap..)

I would have had the shell dipped or atleast sand blasted to get the rot away and a good look what's left of the car.

yep it was well damp and the bib was leeking all the rain in and keeping
the floorpans nice and wet and i did not notice cause it was at my
dads for all those years, i did not want to sand blast to bear steel so it
could rust all over by the time i finished it . like meny resto jobs, and
have seen some of the stuff thats been blasted down here, you could
surf on the ripples, would have loved to have dipped it but dont know
anywere to get it done, will sand blast in side when i am ready to
paint the floor it looks worse in the pics but it is 1.6mm steel the pans
were made from so i think they will be ok still if not ill repair them again, my
aim is to cut all the rust out not cover it up so it can come back and bite me again.

hi all been finding it hard to get time to work on the escort kids
are not sleeping much in the daytime now so its going to be one

cut the bumper mount stiffner out and chassis lower edge off

repaired the edge and welded nice thick stiffner back in not much more to do this side now
for now anyway i give all the steel a good coat of zinc
