escort mk1 rebuild with st 170 engine

hi there been getting ready to rebuild my mk1 that i ve had for at least 17 years it's not the first time i ve striped and welded it back up but this will be the third so i know every inch of this car its had many engines some for just a day or two dont like running them in just cant help myself got to see how the new tight engine pulls oops... anyway this time the cars been off the road for many years out in the rain so it's going to need a lot of work i ve been collecting parts for two years now so far i ve got pair of roll top seats, st 170 focus engine, mega squirt ecu, bike throttle bodys, rs stripes, new wheel bearings for rear, and 5lt 2 pack diamond white paint, was going to start this last jan but i moved to better place to start so glad i held back been fighting not to starting this project, now is the time to start well nearly the garage is nearly finished just need to paint the water proofer on the roof and insulate the place put some lights up and wire in the ramp got a brand new two post sat there and paint the floor i ve been in the garage trade for 18 years so not going to strugle on the floor in the cold, any advice on fitting this engine and sorcing parts would be a grate help still looking for pair doors and a bonnet, anyone local are welcome to drop in to see how is't going and try to spur me on just pm me ill give you my mob number am just out side plymouth near tavistock have got a few friends ready to help ill put pics up as often as i can to start it all off hears the car and the garage.

To get you started use Dave at Retro ford for the sump, mounts water rail well basically you could get the lot from Dave.

Chris at Raceline and Dunnell sell all you need, I used Retro ford to get the bits to get the engine in, Raceline for the water rail Jenveys and omex ecu

x member and mounts are hear now thanks to dave from retro ford for quick service, have been out side in the rain and snow trying to sort leeking roof on garage out have cleand roof and give it one coat of sealer needs one more so will get to that asap, have been looking hard for doors and bonnet today phoned a few guys got some leads to check fingers crossed.

quick update

roof of garage all sealed up and garage drying out at last won a door on ebay am trying to get it picked up its in bedford and miles away from me
bolted ramp in this weekend and put powercable in had some bolts missing so still need to fit ramp motor and
wire in, will try to get all done this week, if the twins let me sleep and dont take all my spare time will post pics of garage when all fitted
and working still need bonnet if any one has one for sale

hi ya been busy with twins

but have got lights up more power sockets in, got my heater back just in case it gets cold,
at last ramp all wired up and working sweet, floor half painted needed to use ramp for few quick jobs
befor i rip mk1 apart and it stays there for weeks and weeks, got my ebay door picked up
is much better than mine see the pic of mine .... got it on the ramp to check out floor
still looks good glad i zink painted it about 8 years ago, just surface rust i need to do a lot
more welding now anyway hears the latest picks,

quick up date

done all my clutch jobs i needed ramp for, done both rover and 406 this friday and oil change on 206 gti
so am good to start the next time i get out there
picked up my empty gas bottle for welder so i need to fill this up now as well takin the wife shopping monday,
so ill try to get bottle filled as well then roll on the week end hope its dry and warm will pop the motor out and strip
in side dont want to burn any of it with my welding

monday, picking up wire and stuff tomorrow then, the fun starts, not sure what
to do first ... best i get some sheet steel on saturday i think maybe i should get
some bulk head ends to start then work forward

I think I would've started be bracing the shell. That way you know it won't shift as you remove metall.

engine out

was day off today so i riped the motor and box out had a poke
about removed servo front wiring lights and rest of engine
bay stuff then put x member and struts back on so i can
move it got a3 clutch to do thursday night then back
to it hopfully friday, removed some sealer i put on
heater bubble years ago to stop water and most of the bulk
head fell apart was going to cut this back anyway,

hello all

well its been out in the sun and have got the dash, seats, front loom, heater box, wiper
motor all out, had a day trip out to look for parts but the first auto jumble was 2 days
befor the web had the wrong date so we whiped up to hatherleigh for
the next one picked up some h4 wipack front lights new for a tenner some front lenses and
one rear lamp for fiver
some flaper disks for grinder and a big hamer for 3 quid thought this would come in
handy soon, more pics of rust but first the pics of the good rear
arches these were done last time i painted her just befor i layed it up some 7 years ago..
