Hey guys. I have recently bought a crash damaged donor car to provide a new engine and induction setup for my '86 XR2. The car was running an ST170 engine with AT Power (Direct to head) ITBs and a Tour de Force ECU.
My current setup is a blacktop zetec, on custom plenum inlet with OMEX 600 management.
My original intention was to remove my zetec blacktop and plenum inlet, fit the ST170 engine and ATP bodies in their place, fit a M.E VVT Pro (vvt controller) that i have in the stockpile, and take the whole lot to be remapped on my Omex 600 ecu.
However, i'm now thinking this might be uneconomical when i have a ready mapped T.D.F ECU in the donor car, with built in VVT control (as opposed to using an external module as i would have with my omex 600)
My issue is i'd never even heard of Tour De Force before, do not know the quality/reliabiltiy of their parts etc etc
So basically i'd like to know if anyone on here has any knowledge and/or experience/feedback on T.D. F?
From looking on google i can see they are based a couple of hours from me, so not the end of the world if i want to make changes to the engine and need a remap, but obviously this is less convenient than the OMEX equivalent (where i have a good choice of operators in my area i can take the car to)
Just want to know if its worth swapping management over to the T.D.F to save getting it set up again elsewhere, or whether it would be a downgrade from OMEX 600 (which i have found very reliable) so to persevere with the OMEX/VVT Pro combo and a remap?
Thanks very much for your time, and any tips/advice much appreciated
Jonni
ps, just thinking, one other option would be to fit the ATP bodies to my blacktop, thus eliminating the need for VVT control, however, through research it does look like the low/midrange gains with the ST170 engine (with fully operational VCT) make it worth the effort in the long run. But am open to opinion on this matter!
