I have a pair of old (10+ years) Avo on the back and Gaz on the front. They are so similar, that if you peel the logo sticker off they look like they came out of the same factory. They are both old units, so I cannot comment on their newer stuff.
haven't long bought these. Have used them before on various road / rally cars. Gaz are good for about any choice of suspension setup. These are going on my rwd mk6 fiesta.

Road or track ? My Gaz front rears are hard on even the lowest setting unless u use at least 250lb F and 185lb R springs
I’ve tried rates from 130 lb to 185lb and strangely it’s better ride stiffer the rear spring 🤔

Protech ?

I used to run AVO until adjusting one day, the adjuster fell out along with all the oil in the shock. The Protech are far superior quality !

Well other than both knobs being round, there were no similarities between my old Avo's and the Protech in use. Avo's were single adj, Protech dual adjustable if that might matter.
The quality in feel of the clicks, ease of adjustment on the Protech's far superior than the Avo's ever were, even when new. And also different numbers of clicks. The Avo's were more prone to the adjuster tightening up or difficult to turn, whereas the Protech's always seem to be nice and easy.
And so far the Protech's havent fallen apart and give no indication of doing so.
I had a few Avo's on my car over the years, largely as they were easy to buy from with good choices online. But I had a few because I had to replace units through issues.
The Protech's have just been better for me all round, only found out about them about 4-5 years ago.
