Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
Sounds like some kind of overboost problem?

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
ok, think that is worth a try, sounds promissing! When i brought it the bloke said the boost was turned up! If any1 has any other ideas it would be greatfull. I will get it to the garage. Not got a idea how to turn it down. Thanks.

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
Has it got a boost gauge fitted? Also has it got a bleed valve fitted?
If yes to both then a) see what boost its making, to be safe you want it to be low at about 12psi untill you can get the car set up properly as you dont know what the chip is mapped for!
b) use the bleed valve to wind the boost down. Failing that take the actuator rod off of the little ball thing on the wastegate on the turbo and make sure the preload is half a hole, ie with the actuator rod resting on the ball thing, you can see half of the ball in the hole in the actuator rod, then you just pull the rod a little on the spring to get it to go over the ball.

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
Here we go, it has a boost gauge fitted n is showing nearly 14 psi on boost! Far 2 high! But where would the bleed valve be? If it has one? Thanks for this help mate, its all good learning.

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
14psi is not a lot, it all depends what the chip is written for. I dont know much about rst's so dont know what the standard boost should be, i would guess around 8-12psi without searching? A bleed valve could be anywhere depending on the last owners choice! It should be somewhere on the hose between the actuator and the inlet/compressor housing of the turbo in that hose, if it has one. They may have just wound the actuator rod up to achieve the boost though!

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
Thanks again mate, run out of light 2day but will have a look hopefully one night in the week. Pulled up some info on the boost, getting the idea it needs to be round 7-8. Think i will aim for that till i can get it in diagnostic test.

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
Nice one, thats the best you can do is to aim to get the boost to a standard level then see what it goes like and if the problems still there or not, if it isnt then you know its a boost problem, then just either wind the boost back up until it starts doing it again and back it off a touch, or better still get it in for a proper set up by your local tuner (is northampton motorsport the site sponsor close to you?)

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
Ha, funny you should say that!!! I have had a few test done by a friend that has a garage, he found the fuel pump is low on pressure and thinks it could be a pipe in the tank off the fuel pump or the pump its self. on tick over the battery is reading 14.2volts but doesnt seem to get better when i rev the car or turn the lights on etc? Still has 13.4 with all battery eatting equiptment on! This should be enough?

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
Chargingis fine and the rs turbo has'nt got a pipe in the tank it graverty fed only the fiesta turbos have in tank pumps and the pipe splits on them internaly though.

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
It is a fieata RS turbo. So guess the split pipe is looking to be the cause? when the problem occurs it does correct it self when left to tick over or when the stopped and started again. Its all pointing to split pipe, dam well have to get the tank out.

Re: RS Turbo in trouble!
tank is easy to come out on a fiesta what happens is the seal goes weak and the pipe slides down and lets air in hence loss of presure, so take it off and put a rubber pipe in its place because you cant buy the original one it comes with the fuel pump only.
