Classic car reg transfer
Hi all, Just mulling over an idea at the moment. My car has a plate which is currently transferable, which given the rumours of "Q" plates etc i am thinking of transferring off the car and this will give me another age related plate in its place which will be then none transferable.
Ok so far I think ?
If the worst happens and my car gets issued a "Q" plate (which i dont think it will) they will take away the none transferable one.
My question is it still possible to put a cherished plate back on a car (within the age rules etc) with a none transferable reg ? and remove it again at any time getting back the none transferable number back again. I think this is how it works I am sure this has been done with classic cars before ?
I do know that if issued with a "Q" plate you cannot put on a cherished reg. but i am think before when or if that happens.
Thanks

Re: Classic car reg transfer
Don't understand the question - what is a 'non transferable' registration? Surely the only non transferable plates are Q plates?

Re: Classic car reg transfer
with older cars they issue you with anther age related plate i.e abc 123c could be transferred off and you might get dwx 761c for example back which then cannot be transferred off. I assume it is to prevent you make a living from generating old plates and selling them. I think they also tend to give back an unattractive plate (that is an assumption). On your V5 the reg will be declared as non transferable as well.
This is what i understand so far.

Re: Classic car reg transfer
Non transferable in the case of a replacement registration or a recovered reg, means you cant move it to another vehicle. There is nothing to stop you putting a private reg on or the original reg you took off. Why are you panicking about Q plates? If you are referring to the new mot rules, the final draft of the new mot criteria for non VHI has been announced. I posted the info on here about 3 weeks ago.

Re: Classic car reg transfer
Thanks Ken, i am still a bit unsure what will happen as you said in the other post so am trying to get in a position before it is too late. I quite like my anglias reg so don't want it snatching from me (after 25 years of ownership) if things don't go according to plan with MOT's etc. If i can get DVLA to give me another reg at least i have got something off them. Even if it ends up on my daily driver.

Re: Classic car reg transfer
Its all self declaration anyway.
Have you altered the bodywork ie bulkhead cut or tunnel change, changed the suspension type, ie 4 link instead of springs, steering rack instead of box, if not I doubt you have much to worry about.

Re: Classic car reg transfer
My anglia has escort suspension with rack etc. The rear is all anglia except from milton a frame and disk brakes all round. The engine is Lotus TC and 2000e box so I could argue they are of similar origin etc and bodywork is all in tact.

Re: Classic car reg transfer
I dont think you have anything to worry about there. Just MoT as normal.
