2.0 Zetec/ST170 N/A 270HP
Got any ST170 flow developed graph? Not bad in standard form.
2.0 Zetec/ST170 N/A 270HP
I believe you have a genuine 270bhp
I sense a lot of unjustified negativity from some people, shame on you
Have a look here: cnc heads st170, their ported st170 head makes a whopping 183 cfm @ 10" water and 12.7mm lift.
The quote it as capable of 221bhp @7100rpm and 180lb/ft @ 5700rpm with a modified std inlet manifold!
With throttle bodies + engine management etc they say it will make over 300bhp
Piko built a very good engine
By the way what internal diameter did you bore out the Busa throttle bodies to and what injectors did you use?
Cheers
Jason
If you look at the CNC flow figures, you will see the operaters name is Jim Garrard. The air flow figures are measured on a flow bench that Jim built. His first flow bench was a copy of my Superflow and was calibrated alongside it. This new flow bench he built appears to read a little bit on the high side, if you check the standard flow of an ST170 on the graph above, you will see that it has a maximum of 140 cfm, whereas CNC on their home made flowbench think it is 150 cfm. you will see there is quite some difference. If you feed CNC 's flow figures into performance trends engine analyser part of the port flow analyser you are going to get some high BHP figures out of it. Also worth noting is that there is no worth while increase in flow until you get to 300 thou valve lift. As most camshafts for this engine only lift to about 450 thou, you have only got 150 thou of improvement. By the way Jim Garrard has left CNC and is now working in Switzerland. I understand that CNC have now purchased a superflow flowbench.

i take it you replaced the butterflys for larger ones ?
Do cam companys keep the standard fitting for pullys or do they change them so you can only fit there cams/pully compo?
I like these but dont wana buy them if they aint gona fit?
These should fit any zetec cams. They fit to the OEM St170 cam with an adapter or if you order the catcams with VCT delete, they fit directly.

After some searching I found out that S2000 injectors can be fitted to Busa throttle bodies with a few modifications, they flow 41% more fuel, aslo if you do a search on ebay for "hayabusa injector" there is a very large variety of new injectors available with any flow rate, they fit directly into them.
After looking at the Busa throttle bodies there seems to be very litte material left for boring out, did you go all the way to 44mm?
Cheers

Have been talking to cat cams again just cant get over how much more they are than other cams are they really that much diffrence the spec seems about the same as the pipers ???
I bought the cams with normal radius and needed only four new followers to get the correct clearance on all. The rest just needed to be swaped around.
As for the cam spec, you can just go as much as you can with factory springs. Or if you want more you'll need retainers and spring. As I told you, I will sell you my spare springs very cheap!
For the pulleys you can use standard Zetec ones, The only drawback is they are heavier and more work involved timing the cams.

Cheers matey I think I will save up and get the cat cams as I only wana do this once. Will pm you about the parts when Im sorted
Just found this...

i think you need to decide on a target output trig.
thing is, i think if you set your sights on a target of 225 then it should be realisticly achievable on an st170 motor for realistic costs ? head work?? if needed ? , piper cams ?? does comp need raising ??? tbh i think you need to start a thread sorry for hijack
I always wanted A St engine I was thinking if it could be done long before anybody had done conversion to escort as My dads mate bought a unfinnished westfield and we help fit a brand new dunnel engine I thought that would fit in my car
But that was nearly 10years ago so I evently got round to building a zetec just as Dave at retro ford did the same.
I now know there was a few zetec escort befor eeven dave had done his.
After reading your posts Im hocked agian and looking to build meself the engine I always wanted maybe even better
These any good for N/A spec???
Tought I would drag this back up now looking at importing from the us piko where did you buy your head from???
And would I have to buy a St head or could I just buy the cnc zetec head will there be any difference if they have been cnc flowed for max flow they should be the same???
Dug this up again for the ST questions that have popped up
double post by accident

As with most high power graphs, you can never say it's not possible but from what I've been measuring in the past, I know 240 Bhp is not easy. Most struggle around 220 Bhp. 250 Bhp is full race, 270 Bhp........?!? . I always watch the torque graph. It's damn difficult to go over 240 Nm and keep it up at high RPM, let alone 260 Nm.
But as a say before, you can never say.... never.
I have an ST170 engined car in at the moment for mapping on std inlet , with one of these CNC heads. Will keep you posted on what it does. To date i have seen poor results with these heads.
poor for cnc head or the st

316BHP on a similar spec as mine but with custom exhaust manifold and dry sump:

Does your ST head have an adaptor to allow the Zetec cam to fit the inlet side or have you got a new inlet cam for the ST head.
Thanks. I have just got a delete kit to fit the zetec pulley onto the ST cam.
Just need it in the car to see what the power figures are before looking for new cams.
