Re: A Quick Hi
Will get some pics sorted and start a separate thread as it’s such a big build and will definitely raise some eyebrows and will be like marmite, your going to either love it or hate it. What happened was I bought an ex rally MK2 last year but sold it after a month or so due to the opportunity coming up to buy this RS2000, it’s now completely stripped and on a spit, minus most panels and is being rebuild from bare shell to full car, replacing any parts or panels for new or upgraded. It’s not going to be a concourse car so haven’t kept, Engine, Gearbox, rear seats, door cards, dash etc (all sold sorry), as Im building a fast road, occasional track day, weekend toy, very much (as you said chrisis) my dream build, full of totally unique and personal ideas of what I see as my dream car, it’s going to be a very long project and a case of starting the next stage after I’ve saved up for it.
To give you an idea of the direction I’m going, it’s getting a non ford turbo lump in it, will be caged out, straight cut box, fully floating Atlas Axle, etc, you get the idea, I’m also not falling for the buy cheap buy twice ethos, that’s why I’m saving up for the best parts I can afford. Won’t say much else as would rather save it for its own thread where you guys can see the transformation and then tell me how much you either love it, or hate it.
Im fully aware of some people’s thoughts regarding historic cars, that they should be kept original and to divert away from that is some form of sacrilege, but I see any major build as a very personal thing, where you put your own stamp on a car and if you want to do something different or radical, then do it. That doesn’t mean that I don’t admire those that choose to keep things totally original and spare no expense to do that, because that’s their vision. What makes the car scene so exciting is we are all different and all have different ideas, I’m the type that likes pushing boundaries and I know in that process it will annoy some people who will hate the build. But my saving grace is “I don’t care” not because I’m an arsehole, but because I always say, it’s down to the person who’s wallet the money is coming out of and not someone else’s idea of what the car should be.
Unfortunately my health has been extremely poor, so nothing has been done on the build for a while, whilst I recover, but once I start again, I will copy and paste what’s already on my laptop and then continue to update the thread I will start. Let’s just hope there’s at least a few out there that will see the uniqueness and passion that’s gone into designing the build.
Thanks for reading this and hope to learn from some of you as I go along, always open to new ideas and suggestions and no doubt criticism.
And chrisis as you mentioned it, I have to ask “how do you know about it costing 3 times the amount in the end, by buying cheap?” You have me intrigued.
