Looked great fun out on the track
I dropped in over my dinner break at work to have a quick look and say hello to a couple of people I knew.
What was making the racket on the Skyline !!
A couple for mates have Skylines and neither sound like that did coming out of Quarry!!
Sounded more like a jet engine

Hi Dogsbody,my son was driveing our skyline,we had to fit an exhaust bung to get the noise down, like most cars on the day we had to buy one from merlinmotorsport.A few people said the same as you it sounded like a jet! What a great day awesome cars and great people hopefully there will be a return soon.

Re: Trigs Track Day Castle Combe

I think i can speak for the other boys from Essex when i say we had a wicked day. Man it was an early start, getting up at 4am was actually painful! but it was worth it.
It would have been easy to feel slightly out of place in our new school motors, my mates in a few Racing Pumas and me in a bright orange Focus ST (couldn't exactly hide!), but we didnt, we just had a wicked day thrashing the shiny metal round the track all day!

I was really impressed by alot of the cars on show, there is something special about seeing 20+ year old motors in such nice condition and still being used to there limits, fair play to you guys.

Really glad we all chose the open pit lane format, it worked out perfectly and we got loads of track time. Enough for my ST to completely cook its brakes, resulting in a pedal to the floor moment and not alot of slowing down! Decided to come in at that point to let them chill for a while!

Apart from a seriously scary moment at Quarry where the dust was so thick the car in front of me completely disappeared, the day was incident free and after a long drive back to Chelmsford we got back very ready for ice cold beer about 8pm.

Had a wicked day, thanks for organising it, and if you guys do it again im definitely coming (this time with better brake fluid, new tyres, and new dampers!)

    cheers.

    Ross

That Skyline definately won "best sounding car of the day" award IMO, sounded awesome.

Ah, it was you in the Focus then Ross

There was noticeably more body roll on the Focus, than the FRP's through Quarry.
I was driving the Racing Puma that arrived about 12:15, Then I drove down to Quarry to get some photo's.
Bit of a flying visit as it was my lunch break from work.
I don't have quite the journey to Combe, some people have

To be honest mate the understeer comment was more of a road driving observation, it would open up a lot more options if I went for FWD. The last one was the only track day I've ever done and I've got a lot to learn which ever way the wheels drive I just want more power next time, I ragged the old derv BMW but she was just too tired, had an absolute ball trying to go faster though!!

Re: Trigs Track Day Castle Combe

We all need to learn mate thats what they are there for The bmw wasnt doing too badly tbh for a smoker Dunno if you were paying that much attention but the blue escort gti was me, think i overtook you a few times? If you get the xr3i it will hopefully be the 130ps one and if so will be as quick as mine with all the 130ps bits on it

Go get it bought for a fun track toy, mine could have done with a tiny bit more power to keep up with some of the quicker cars on the straights but overall i was properly impressed, didnt do too bad against my brothers golf gti turbo with 150bhp!!
