    Re: Crossflow oil pressure switch/adaptor.

    Hi ,

I am Chris from Malta owning an Escort Mk1 with 1700cc crossflow engine. I am experienced the same problems like you had while ago ( as your posts are dated in Aug 2006).
I was running with the Rs dash so I was using its oil gauge and later fitted an oil light switch as well.
Recently the oil switch light was not working very well (maybe of age, or loose contact) and while I was buying a new switch , I noticed that there is a 25psi switch ftom ebay and bought it. Fitted to engine, and after a run it will light up as the oil pressure goes down more than 25psi so I changed it to a standard one.
From that time I was worried about the oil pressure, as I always thought that the Rs dash oil gauge is not reading well ( u know cos of age, engine changed, etc etc) so I bought a new autogauge oil pressure gauge and fitted.
When starting engine from cold, oil pressure will be 50psi, so I left it about 20m idling and the pressure went down to 9/10psi, but when reving 4000, it will goes up to 50. I tried this test in the garage.
Then I went for a run, idle 8/9psi, and while engine rev 6000/7000, 50psi. After to runs like that, idle fell about the same to 8/9psi and while reving same 6000/7000, only 20psi.
Changed pump to H/P & H/C one, for nothing. ( I was told this is not good as it willall oil up and the crank will be empty, so I removed it immediately).
I have changed the oil filter as I was told it could be it.
Then I fitted a washer upon the plunger for higher pressure to my old pump, but still for nothing.
Last option I'm think of is to try the valvoline VR1 20W50, but dont beleive it will do any difference.
    Oil is silkolene 15W50.
Sorry for this long boring story, but I am really getting crazy about this problem.
I appreciate if you could let me know how you did solve your problem please.

    My email address is:

    Thanks alot
    Chris
