    Atlas Axle LSD Options

    Hi All,

I've got a ca18det powered '7' style kit car with an atlas rear axle. 16t standard shafts and a 'standard' capri ZF LSD.

I'm going to replace the capri LSD for an aftermarket one.

There are various options of course; Quaife, Tran-X, 3j, Blackline, Gripper etc.

I'm fairly sure I've made my mind up for Quaife (a friend had a 400bhp fisher fury with a quaife and the traction it had was immense). I"m also not the sort of guy to have to be concerned with pre-loads and plate variances or frequent oil-changes or adjustments.

However, I can't find many people running a Quaife in an atlas axle - any reason for this?

Am I incorrectly discounting the other options that are available? I'd welcome anyones thoughts on this please.

The car is primarily 'fast-road' with 5 or 6 trackways a year thrown in. All tarmac etc, no gravel or anything. Weighs sub <650kg.

the atb needs both rear wheels firmly in contact with the ground or it doesnt work well, live axle cars by nature are more likely to have a very "light" inside rear wheel on a tight corner and thus suffer from poor traction out of tight bends, bmws which have independant rears dont suffer to anything like the same degree, thus they are well regarded in them, unlike escorts

from what i have heard the capri one is pretty effective. Get it overhauled and save some cash. Or sell it to me

I have no experience in this but i am in the market soon and quaife seem to have a very poor reputation on customer service and parts.

3J are ex tranx employees and seem to be very good.

Are the Capri units that good when tightened up abit then? What is the cost for that, and who can do it?

ZF from a Capri 2.8 is a 25% LSD, ZF Motorsport diff is 75%.

Oldshoolrules are in Chesterfield so not too far for you to take it daveb666. Don't get too greedy and have the preload on the plates set too tight or it'll under and over steer like a pig as if the diff was locked solid.

i too kinda think in a 7 style car a bucket load of preload is probably not the way to go!

    Re: Atlas Axle LSD Options

Just to finish this off, I ended up having a chat with oldskoolrules and on his advice, and others I went for the quaife ATB.

Cheapest I found was £780 from limited-slip.com which was almost £80 cheaper than anywhere else.

It gets fitted (by oldskoolrules) over the next week or so
    Can't wait 😁

i think on a 7 type car with very little weight at the rear, or weight full stop come to think of it thats probably a good move
