    Oil in type 9 bellhousing

    When i took my engine out my escort i found that there was oil in the bellhousing....someone told me it could be the oil seal on the gearbox and if this is the case how easy is it to repair?... and would i need to take the box back out to do it

    Could be or could be crankshaft oil seal - either way for ease of access, its either or both out!

    Is it a straight forward job changing the gearbox seal.?...i put a brand new crankshaft seal on when i rebuilt but engine but i think ill replace that as well just in case

    When mine filled with oil several times I investigated and eventually found that the nose adaptor for the concentric clutch slave cylinder was machined a tiny bit too thick meaning that the cork seal between it and the gearbox maincase could not do its job. Half a poomteenth shaved off and all good since.

    Mine is just a cable clutch....with a cast bellhousing...the engines out so ill replace the rear seal again .....still not sure how complicated the gearbox seal is

    Easier than doing the crank one 4 small bolts. It's the tube that carries the release bearing.
