Locking exhaust manifold bolts on x-flow in Escort mk1

What is the best way to lock exhaust manifold bolts on a x-flow?
Can't use studs, as it would be impossible to take the tubular exhaust manifold off with the engine in situ. There is just a few mm space between the manifold and the brake servo bracket (LHD car). Drill the bolt heads and use locking wire or is there a better option?

lock wire wont keep bolts tight, it will just stop them unscrewing if they come loose

How about Nordlock washers? Should be able to cope with the heatcycling i suppose...

Just make sure the threads in the head are good, use new bolts and tighten them.
After mounting mark the bolts with respect to the manifold and check regularly that these are still in the same position.
    Wouldn't use Loctite or anything.

    Cheers guys,

I will use new bolts with spring washers and retorque the bolts after a few heat cycles. If the bolts work loose, I will use some NL8 Nordlocks.

Can't the studs be screwed in with the manifold in situ?
