    What rearaxle did i buy?

    Hello,

I finally found the car i've been looking for since '98. In '98 this car was featured in a Dutch magazine and i wanted to have it ever since. I'm picking it up next saturday. It's an atmo Cosworth engine with two Weber 48's witch has not been driven since 2000 because the previous owner ran it without oil... I hope someone can tell me what kind of rearaxle this is and if you see some other components witch are "special". This is the only picture i've got of the car, i'll post more from saturday on.

    Cheers,

Thanks, i've not had a mk1/mk2 for some years so some knowlige is a bit rusty. I was a bit confused because this axle got reardisks. Does someone recognise the front brake setup and the "link" near the rearaxle?

    Mark,

which magazine was it featured in back in 98?
Rear has single leaf springs, lowering blocks, a Panhard rod an disc brakes with mechanical handbrake.
Front has compression struts with droplinks for an antirollbar.

Who did you buy it from??? (pm me)

    Regards, Leon.

    Hi Leon,

It's been featured in the AMK, build by Ruud Stam. I do recognise the parts but i'm wondering what kind of brake's they are. I thought Ford never fitted diskbrakes to an English axle and it doesn't seem logic to fit them to anything else than an Atlas.

    Cheers,

Looks like its had caliper brackets fitted (common conversion in the uk) not sure of what the calipers are off but they dont appear to have a mechanical handbrake mechcanisum and as they are solid discs i'd guess they calipers are mk3/4 escort or mk2/3 fiesta or similar.

Hi, indeed Ford never fitted discbrakes to an English axle but the specialists (Burton, RD, Timms) sell brackets to mount calipers to the axle. Most use Mk3 Escort or Fiesta calipers but these are rear-calipers from a Sierra/Scorpio as they have an attachment for a handbrake-cable.
    Front brakes are Wilwoods.
    Grtz, Leon.
