Not especially difficult, but a bit fiddly maybe.
It is all pretty logical if you look. If you are taking the quarter glass out you may have to drill out the rivets where the upright fastens to the top of the door. They are sometimes held in with screws.
There is an extension on the bottom of the upright held in place with a screw, once the screw is out it slides off.

I managed to strip mine down before the doors went off to the body shop.......I am just worried about putting them all back together....

Re: removing windows from doors on mk1 escort
as Dave says not too difficult at all - i had to drill the rivets out on mine then a bit of wriggling.
one thing the paint shop told me to do was to leave the uprights loose but still in the doors because you're almost guaranteed to take paint off trying to get them back in again.
mine had rust scabs where they had rubbed against the door tops so i took them out, cleaned them up & primered them, then put back loose in the doortops.
depends how far you're going but i also got the door pins out (see loads of other threads about getting those fascists out) and put new ones in very loose. this meant that i could easily take the doors off once the car was at the shop and they were painted off the car.

hi there, just to bring this back from the dead, I want to put the windows back into my mk1 coupe. In my manaul it says put them at at 90 degrees and then turn them and they will fit, but buggered if I can get them to turn 90 and fit inside the grooves
how do I do this? pictures would be awesome
Thanks
