    Carb Problems

I fitted a different carb (from a p100) to my engine today but it starts, but won't run below 1500 rpm (going by the original clocks, but you can tell it's fast)

It just splutters and cuts out. The carb was a bit seized at first but eveything is moving freely now.

Here's how I've connected everything up. Could be all wrong as I don't really know what I'm doing

There is a sensor (or at least that's what it looks like) in the center of the top pic... What is it for? Is that needed?

I assume that the heater hoses need to pass through the carb for some sort of cold start mechanism? The way I did it is that the pipe comes from the heater and into the top one. the bottom one then goes to the inlet manifold. Have I connected this up right?

Is there something blatenly obvious that I've missed/done wrong? The carb was sold as unknown condition, so could be that... I'm not sure it is though.

Sorry for all the questions, but it's doing my head in lol

    Re: Carb Problems

Hi, whenever I see such a carb I get sick .... whoever invented that should be sh*t.
However that carb has an electric anti-diesel valve to stop any petrol going into the engine whenever the ignition is off.
To test, get a piece of electric wire and run it from the + of the battery to the terminal you thought was a sensor. You should hear a "click" whenever the electric connection is made or disconnected.
Now try again if the engine is running okay on idle with the extra wire. If it is, you should run a wire from the ignition to this connection. Grtz, Leon.

Get a proper carb and stop arsing about with that crap.
32/36 DGAV is best, but you will need a different manifold too.

I feared that would be the answer

Anyone got one for sale that I could collect today?

Cheers. I'll give it another couple of hours trying to get it running as it is. If I get no joy I'll drop you a PM or give you a call also how much would you be after?

    Re: Carb Problems

I have got a new diaphram for that piece of shite VV carb if you want it matt, but do yourself a favor, get 10L of petrol, take it off, burn it, hit it several times with a big hammer, throw it in a big hole in a field and bury it,
Thatll give you much more satisfaction that you will ever get from diving with it and you will save yourself a lot of time.
