Best YB set up for mk2 escort

    Hi all,

Recently viewed a YB cosworth locally for installing in my mk2 escort rs2000. Was set to the pull the trigger on it but the deal fell through so back on the look out for another one. That one was a 205 block, 2WD head, 4x4 turbo and 4x4 ecu.

What is the ideal set up that I should be looking for? 200 block 4x4 engine as a starting point or 205 block with 2wd head? Are there any issues with fitment with either of the above listed?

Any advice is welcome as I am fairly new to YB installations.

    Cheers
    Neil

Have been looking on RS Classic 360 this morning for parts. Anyone used them before?

All the blocks are the same - apart from strength, so any will do; it's a Pinto lump at the end of the day. Though the 4x4 block is definitely the strongest. You'll want a 2wd sump regardless of which block you use.

2wd exhaust manifold flows a little better than 4x4, but it's an absolute monster and you'll almost certainly need to do something to stop it cooking the inner wing. The 4x4 version will give you a lot more clearance.

There are various differences with the heads - mounting points for sensors, as well as castings to fasten the turbo damper for the 2wd version which the 4x4 is lacking (not needed with the 4x4 manifold). The 2wd has a slightly larger combustion chamber so would lower the CR if fitted to a 4x4 block/piston combination.

Absolute best is probably a complete 4x4 engine along with a 2wd sump, it's newer, stronger, makes (a little) more power as standard and has the later L8 ecu. But otherwise, I'd say a matched engine would be better, otherwise you may have to mix and match various bits and pieces. Either way you'll want the 2wd box.

depends what power you want to go with as the 4x4 block can take a bit more than the 2wd block however you can go big power with 2wd block.

depends what engine comes up for sale really.

need a decent axle for the power, brakes need upgrading too imo.
