Slight tap to the top of the carb (float-cover) sometimes does the trick as the needle valve might be stuck-ish.

Was it running before the carb change?

Are you getting a squirt of fuel when you stab the throttle?

    Re: non starting car

so far. when i bought the car it came with a brand engine.
I assembled it, new carb base gasket manifold etc and fitted carb.
set the dizzy at no1 aligned the cam pulley. Few cranks started and ran, when it got warm it then wouldn't start. Left it for day still wouldn't start.
    so back to basics.
set points, new condenser , new leads, plugs ,checked tappets gaps set to 0.2 and 0.25.also I had purchased a new carb as not fitted so everything would be new.so i swapped the carb out.
set the carb as in instructions.
checked the fuel pump pressure with pipe removed all good ,removed the return getting a flow back and plenty of fuel in the tank.
I noticed on the wiring on the original dizzy(mtrcraft) the wire from the coil to points was damaged ,so replaced that,
so at mo next stage is check the timing .
cranks over fine got a spark and the plugs are dry.
been on to eurocarb this morning and has asked me to remove top of carb to check inside.
    float heights needle jet stuck?
    ordered a timing gun too.

    frustrated murf.

    non starting car

Surely plugs should be wet if fuel was getting through.....just a thought🤔

    Re: non starting car

so today removed plug no 1set timing marks all good.tested all leads with spark tester all good.
I haven't got my old carb anymore can anyone answer this.
From the front of the carb I have my fuel pipe inlet on the left as was before, the brass fitting is straight through.
The return is on the right,it has a restrictor in it to the return line tank etc.is this std.as I haven't got my old carb to check against.
Checked fuel pipe coming in when cranks got a good supply of fuel.
I removed top of carb some fuel in there about 5mm in bottom.
How much is there supposed to be in there?.
    Reassembled cranks over doesn't fire.
    Any help cheers murf

    Re: non starting car

So yesterday did the following.removed carb top and cleaned needle jet float chamber all good.took fuel pipe off crank ok and fuel, checked return all good.
Reassembled operated carb got fuel squirting happy days.
    Checked timing.
Top pulley with pointer aligned with casting.bottom pulley is on the line on the bottom pulley out of the 4lines the one on the left nearest the alternator.
Checked voltage at coil 12 v when ignition on.
Removed cap and checked points 25 thou .motorcraft dizzy.cranked over got a nice spark at points.
Refitted cap and using plug tester tested each lead .got a red bulb illuminating .it was fitted with Bosch plugs so fitted new set of NGOs.gapped and fitted..
Removed each plug and tested on block got a good spark refitted.
    Cranks over but no joy.
ive ordered a new coil ,only part that hasn't been replaced ,but measured with meter and got 2.5 ohms.
    Stumped to say the least.
Anyone in the reading area recommend a good mechanic whose mobile for a second opinion.
    Cheers murf

    Re: non starting car

Take off one of the leads and plug a spark plug in. rest it on the manifold so it can earth through. Hold it with some insulated pliers and get someone to crank it. if you have a spark then great.

    Timing the engine.

remove sparkplug no1 closest to cam pulley. poke a screwdriver in the hole and Rotate the crank by hand until you feel the piston at the top of is stroke. you might need to go round one more time (cam takes 2 rotations to 1 crank turn)

On the pulley line up the timing marks to 10-12 BTDC. Now check that the dizzy lines up with No.1 spark plug (usually a little line on rim of the main dizzy body.

if all good I would try a spray of brake cleaner and see if that trys to start.

have you done a compression test?

Cheers for all advice 're timed engine set tdc. It stsrtrdcto fire then would die then it ran .traced fault to the small wire from coil to dizzy.intermittently supplying voltage to dizzy.replaced the wire.getting the rubber bit out of dizzy wasn't easy.replaced and she runs.
    Thanks for all advice
