When Danie sent me the pics of his Escort for the booking, I could not stop drooling over the pics. Having learnt to drive on one of these cars, it definately holds a special place in my heart. Unfortunatly the car that I learnt to drive on was NO WAY NEAR the condition of this car !
Being white I knew there was never going to be that WOW factor as white is the most unflattering car to detail. We got the car in early on Saturday morning. We took a few shots before the wash but the sun wasn't out fully yet.
Neil set to work on the wheels & wheel wells while I tackled the undercarriage and exhaust.
Once we were both done, it was time for the wash -
We got to work on the claying to remove all contaminates and overspray ...
Then it was time to pull he out in the sun to see what we were working with ...
We pulled her into the garage and taped up all decals and rubber bits. I also taped up my test section for the 50/50's
Then we set to work on the test area with the Menz PO85 to see if that would do the trick. The bonnet only had mild surface swirls so I knew that wouldn't be a problem.
The test section:
We were pleased with the results and decided that the Menz would be the compound of choice. That was until we hit the passenger door and rear fender! Eeeeek ! once the Menz took off the surface swirls we were left with horrid sanding marks. Uneven sanding marks which just looked like a whole lot of DEEP scratches! It was time for some tough love for the old girl and I whipped out the AutoGlym 03b and AutoMagic yellow compounding pad. It cut through the deep sanding marks to some extent but a few random marks still remained. We had no choice but to leave it like that as any further attempt would have caused serious defects. The 03b cuts very well but did leave surface marring and a hazy finish. We decided to followup with the Menz PO152, and it polished out to a brilliant finish!
Once the compounding was complete I tackled the exhaust again. The initial dirt and grim was removed by metal polish and steel wool. I then set to work with the drill and compounding pads to polish it up.

The taillights and badges were treated with Meguairs plastic polish and Unibal -
The last step was to apply the High Defination wax, and being white I really was going for the longitivey and protection rather than the WOW but I have to say the High Defination did not disappoint and added it fair share of reflection to a white car !
Finally the AFTERS:
WHAT A BABE !
The worst thing about winter detailing is not enough sun for the BEFORE shots, and then in the afternoon, theres not enough sun for the AFTERS !
... Hopefully the pics do show the level of correction.
Thanks for looking !
