    Historic Vehicle Tax/MOT query

the RS ( build date April 1977) is now of an age where it qualifies for free road Tax from April. In order to tax it I will need a valid MOT.

However I notice that the proposals for dropping the MOT requirements come into force on the 20th May, therefore if I wait till then I won't need a valid MOT.

Is this actually the case, is this a firm date or was it just a proposed date ?

I'd MOT it regardless-I think its a stupid idea personally letting 40+ year old cars go on the public highway with no test of roadworthiness. Sure most classic owners will look after their cars but there's always going to be people who can just literally drive a car out the scrapyard and onto the roads-lets see how many accidents they cause

If you do decide to go MoT exempt after that date dont forget you will need to fill a form to do so.

You will also need to register your car with dvla as historic to qualify for mot exemption.

Mine mk2 is tax exsempt, surely if you car had been in the road then going mot should be easy, if it’s been off the road for years and years it should have to have an mot or inspection the 1st time.
