Clutch problem (xe to type 9)

Ive got a problem with my clutch in the Viva, Im using an XE with a flat flywheel and pressure plate, the friction plate is a sierra one with the same diameter as the XE one.

The clutch pedal seems heavy and it wont release the clutch ie it wont go into gear with the engine running.

The clutch arm is being pulled a fair way but somthings not right!!

Any Ideas before I have to take the box out for a third time?!!

what release arm are you using? i believe it should be an rs2000 one from an escort. as that is what i have in my capri with an SBD paddle clutch on a type 9 with no problems.

Any updates on the problem, I'm using the SBD release arm and bearing on a STD Vauxhall clutch.

Should finish the wiring tomorrow so will be looking at starting the thing ove the weekend.

Gotta take gearbox off and buy another release bearing (£50+ carriage) first though as it got "Broken" when the bellhousing was removed for machining.

Just don't wanna run into yet more issues with the car.

Your problem seems like another pain in the arse to fix, and as I'm using parts from SBD again i'm concerned now that I may encounter the same problem

Got the problem sorted. I was using a crappy yukspeed bellhousing and an RS2000 fork. Turns out you have to file about an inch out of the back of the fork hole for it to clear....Why make a bellhousing that doesnt work without having to modify it?

What bellhousing do you have? Im sure that there wont be a problem with the SBD one, should be much better quality!!

Thumbs up Re: Clutch problem (xe to type 9)

Got the clutch on mine connected now and it works nicely (though I haven't tried it with the engine running).
Am using SBD bellhousing, release arm AND release bearing.

I've got an upright bellhousing and ford release arm in the garage and that works fine, but before I bought the release arm from sbd i tried the ford arm in their bellhousing with exactly the result that you have. In fairness to SBD they did tell me that my ford arm might not fit their bellhousing, but I had to see for myself.......and they were correct

The fuel line for mine should arrive tomorrow, so this weekends the big start up
