    Unleaded heads

    Hi all,

im new to the forum and to the UK, I’ve been here now about 8 months. I will soon be bringing over my MK 1 Escort. The only problem I’m foreseeing is that I have not changed my head over for unleaded fuel yet. Please can you offer me some advice on where I might get it done and how much it will cost. I’m based in St Albans.

    Blessings

you dont say what engine. personally just keep an eye on the tappet clearances and worry about having it converted when and if you have a problem, it can take a lot of mileage to flush out accumulated lead deposits and costs no more to convert a head which has suffered valve recession than one that hasnt. either way its got cheaper, you lookig about £100 for hardened exhaust seats, but usually you end up needing guide repairs and work on the inlet side too, so the cost may rise a fair bit
