What has everyone done when fitting brake reservoirs?

    Evening,

In the middle of a swapping out engines and fitting a new pedal box at the same time. was looking to mount the reservoirs on a bracket on the top of the bulkhead (same raised section as the fuse box protrudes, but on the opposite side), but on the underside of that is the upper panel which the pedal box mounts to....

What has everyone done then fitting through this bit? One pipes looks like it could potentially come out the side of the bracket and around, but the other will definitely have to come through the panel, and require a larger hole in order to allow for the pipe clip, i guess?

    Any clues?

Ive mounted the reservoir bracket slightly higher in the bulkhead then just routed the hoses through the flat bulkhead area further over to avoid the area youre talking about.

I am in the same situation, was thinking maybe cutting a hole with the plasma cutter to allow spanner access -4 fittings.

Have been thinking about this allot and came up with another possibility. Perhaps mounting them up under the dash on a bracket mounted off steering column, using some big clips like those used to hols garden tools on the wall so they are easy to pull out and fill?

If youre planning on doing motorsport youre not allowed fluids inside the car, plus, how would you top them up if youre bleeding brakes etc

not so any more, the blue book has changed, it now says "no pressurized hydraulic reservoirs" in the cabin

Precharged obviously? Otherwise master cylinders would be out

Den Motorsport put most of theirs in the rear 1/4 panel, they use an all in one type reservoir. I was thinking of having them clipped in tightly with 60mm Terry clips so that they can be pulled out for filling ect

Thats long hoses, most Den cars ive seen have them on the scuttle panel, just had a look at John Marshalls Den cars on my phone, his XE one has them inside the engine bay but his Millington one doesnt.

Did you have to cut a hole in the mount for the pedal box?

I used a custom fluid container from Zakham Engineering along with a set of bulkhead connectors so no pipework having to pass through the shell:

mine was tall enough and long enough to get the lines out sideways above the box.

Only problem there is that if you have a leak on either a front or rear circuit you'll lose all fluid and have no brakes......if that reservoir is common to both, also you wouldnt be able to fit a big NA manifold with where to hose route.

I believe that that particular reservoir design has baffle or divide to prevent both circuits draining completely if one leaks.

Re: What has everyone done when fitting brake reservoirs?

Ive bolted my reservoirs directly into the bulkhead, on the passengers side, because the reservoirs are bolted to the bulkhead the hose outlets face into the cockpit, i then run the two pipes to the master cylinders inside the bulkhead. An hour or two with a hammer and dolly to shape the bulkhead to suit the reservoirs and two holes is all that is needed.

Made a hash of mine as at the time the car had just been painted and didn't want to drill big holes in it. Going to change the hard line to flexi line at some point

It is indeed two separate containers. He will also make it with a third, for hydraulic clutch arrangements.
