Question Initial Oil Pressure-newly built engine

Anybody got any tips on how to prime the oil pump, engines freshly built but cannot get the oil pressure light to go off using starter motor, and on removing both the oil filter (bone dry, even though I filled it 2/3's before I put it on)and the rocker cover it seems no oil up to the head or circulation through filter.
I've re filled the filter and re cranked the engine but still no joy, and now its still got the oil in it.

    Help

took the oil filter off, stuck a length of rubber pipe over the feed from the pump, stuck a funnel in the other end, put 1/2 litre of oil in it and kept it above the level of the oil pump while I turned the engine backwards slowly with a spanner.

Was having thoughts about pulling engine out and having to strip it down, but the above technique worked

Oil light went off, and have nice clean oil pumping to the top of the engine (I know cos its pumped the cam lube out, and you can see fresh oil)

Starter motor got a bit warm though
