    CAD Software Change

For a number of years I have dabbled with AutoCAD 2010 for designing brackets and other bits n bobs. I have just upgraded my PC and now run W10 64 bit. The old AutoCAD 2010 was 32 bit and will not install.

Rather than spend a whole lotta money for the latest AutoCAD (and get involved with horrible subscription software) I was thinking about a new product called TurboCAD Delux 2017. I probably only use 5% of the AutoCAD capability (home taught, non-professional use) so a less intensive product should suffice. It appears to read the AutoCAD DWG file format so all my old designs will still be viewable.

Has anybody used TurboCAD before????? May have to see if there is a trial version.

Have you tried Siemens solid edge ?
It's free and as a complete beginner I found it great other than I keep forgetting how to do stuff 😂

I learnt Turbo CAD in the very early 90's...junk then and assumed it went under. if your ACAD proficient look for Bricsys BricsCAD. Autocad clone in look feel and operation. and a fraction of the price...well it was in 2012.

    Re: CAD Software Change

never heard of either of them. will investigate. i use CAD only a couple of times a year but when I do use it I find it an invaluable tool. I do 3D as well as 2D so finding the right software that is capable of both with a reasonable list of functions seems to be hard.

TurboCAD is now supposed to be better than AutoCAD for 3D according to interweb reviews but then again so many of those are bogus...

    Re: CAD Software Change

I think my issue is that i have 32 bit autocad but the new pc is 64 bit. Autocad no longer supply downloads for AC2010 so unless i find somebody who had an AC2010 64bit installation disk i am stuffed! No patches or work around to be found.

Price wise TurboCAD looks the best as they have generous student discounts available. BrisCAD only provides it free for 1 year and AutoCAD student is subscription based and still not cheap.

I am not a proficient autocad user and basically relearn it every time i need it. Switching software is therefore not an issue. Interested in your TurboCAD comment. Trial download will def be a good idea if i go that way. ..
