Re: Duratec mk1 escort ,setups
most of the above is personal preference, you could fit a duratec and keep std brakes axle and suspension, it wouldnt be much fun though the first time you meet a sharp bend!
if its for road use then just stick to uprating what you have got, i.e poly bush uprate the springs and dampers and go for a sensable upgrade of the front brakes and your have a nice car to use,
competition use is another matter and what to do then will be decided by the rules and your budget!

Re: Duratec mk1 escort ,setups
Some 2.8 struts and Princess calipers on the front would do it as a minimum. After that it depends how much spare money you have.
I'm sure you know all the stuff that can be bolted on, just pick which you think you want really.

Re: Duratec mk1 escort ,setups
You can build Duratec's up quite cheaply, but the ancillaries are expensive. There is no doubt a Zetec is much cheaper to install and if you are only after 200-220bhp, I would go that route
