theres no way of knowing im afraid, the numbers will be meaningless and stage 2 could again be anything

The BF 40/41 cam is an old profile from the late 70's, early 80's. It was popular in both road and stage rally cars of that period. It was a long duration and low lift cam with very lumpy idle. I think they quoted approx 160 bhp in a decent spec engine.

You don't say what size exhaust valves are fitted to your head, photo's might help us a bit more. Years ago different head modifiers had various stages as to the work they had done. Stage 1 was a skim and de coke with any burs removed and maybe a set of up rated valve springs, stage 2 as above but with larger inlets and stage 3 as 2 but with larger exhaust valves. As for the porting that's anyone's guess. I remember reading that in CCC or Hot Car in the 70's.

The 062 number looking at their website looks like the head is stage 2 as all their stage 2 heads have pch 062,, the valves are 44mm and 34mm as you can see by how clean the valves are it hasnt had a lot of use the chap told me it was basically just run in and then not used over 10 years ago

The valves look like GP1 inlet and std exhaust.

Why are you so concerned as to what stage it is? There are some engine builders that believe the std exhaust valve is plenty big enough for large HP so there might be no point in changing them for 38mm ones.

Depending on what the engines's going to be used for it might better off looking for a more suitable cam.

but as there is not fixed definition of what "stage" is what then how can you ever know exactly what your selling?

If you want to sell it just state what the buyer gets: head, maybe headwork, size of valves, cc of chamber etc.
In 10 years lots of people could have worked on / altered something on the head.

You know what size inlet and exhaust valves are fitted, it also looks to have bronze guides. You have told us what cam's installed so really there's not a lot more to say about it.

You are better off advertising it as just that instead of saying it's a stage???
