4 link box help please
I bought a set of 4 link boxes off ebay fairly cheap as below
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mk2-Escor...72.m2749.l2649
Ill soon be cutting some holes and getting them in but just needed to ask a few questions first, i read a post by Gary explaining that there are two types which are clubman and Works group 4 each coming with it own measurements for fitting
Clubman fit parallel 740mm centre to centre
Works taper out front 800mm / rear 775mm
how do i know which type of boxes i have, are they physically different or is it just a different way of fitting the same boxes?
... more questions to follow :-)

Re: 4 link box help please

Re: 4 link box help please
Yes you can.
I think the only difference really is that they are long and short link boxes, the short ones are historically correct for Mk1's.

Re: 4 link box help please
I have measured up and cut out one of the holes for my link boxes (albeit slightly wide)
and i just dont know how to position it, i know it has to sit vertically up against the rear seat X/M and underneath sit level with the chassis rails but my X/M has been completely removed and replaced
would you go with option 1

Re: 4 link box help please
Imo I'd go for option 2. I was just looking at how mine looks, my mate put them in for me nearly 30yrs ago. I think they should sit level with the top of your seat brace, bearing in mind that already sits up higher than the trans tunnel anyway. Then they need to be braced with skids to the floor at the front underneath aswell really, and possibly to the chassis rails aswell.
Mine's stiil got the standard seat brace but another section sat on top of it too and the four link boxes sit up to these but that whole lot still sits slightly lower than the centre of my trans tunnel. Mine's also an early shell aswell too so it hasn't got the little standard turret towers across the rear damper brace like yours. Mine is just flat across there...
I presume when you put your seat brace back in you left it in the same place as the original forwards and backwards.

Re: 4 link box help please
Im pretty sure i put the seat brace back in the same place, problem is that i dont have many reference points, my prop tunnel is also enlarged and sit about 2" higher than the original tunnel
perhaps im getting too hung up on measurements, as long as they go in square and sit level with the chassis rails underneath

Re: 4 link box help please
I think mine sit slightly lower than the chassis rails tbh, but it's a while since Ive been under it so I can't be sure without looking.
And the rear of mine sit just down from the top of my damper brace across the width of the car...

Re: 4 link box help please
I also think your boxes are deeper/taller than mine, they look it a little bit to me anyway.. Mine only have 1 top and bottom 4 link bar mounting hole. Where as I think your's might have a few at the top.

Re: 4 link box help please
I put mine in as high as they would go

Re: 4 link box help please
So the holes are cut and both boxes tacked in, From the underside some of the pics give the illusion that one of the boxes is sitting at an angle however all of the measurements are correct... very strange

Re: 4 link box help please
After a bit more investigation although it was all nice and square on top, underneath one of the boxes was leaning in slightly somehow.
After a bit of fettling and a few tack welds its now all nice and square again.

Re: 4 link box help please
Glad to hear it.
I was going to say had you had a straight edge on the boxes from underneath.
