    Lead replacement options

    Hi All.

My head is in for overhaul at the moment but the budget has well and truly been smashed and SWMBO is NOT happy.

One way to save some cost is to not replace the valve seats with hardened ones and use a fuel additive. Seeing as the planned vehicle is only ever going to be a hobby runabout it wont clock up serious miles or hard miles at that.

Whats the best option? Skint myself and risk divorce now or a liquid additive...Has anyone used those drop in tank "nuggets" that supposedly do the job?

    I wouldn’t bother with anything
I ran my rally cars crossflow on normal fuel all that will happen is the valves gaps close up after a while for the miles you will be doing I wouldn’t bother

I have to admit a bottle of additive is €7.50

    Head rebuild is €300

Head rebuild with hardened seats is €680

I am edging towards the additive/nothing

IMHO the nuggets are snake oil, absolute waste of money, they do nothing. The Millers VSP-E is a concentrate so is easier to use, deals with unleaded, ethanol and ups the octane to boot. From memory £20 treats 500L of fuel.
