    Removing 105E Anglia front wings

Does anyone have any pictures or info on removing anglia front wings? I'm going to remove mine tomorrow but it doesn't look as simple as an escort so would like to see how they are removed before starting. Thanks

I have removed mine but i was lucky as they had been replaced and were brazed on, so just had to heat up and pop the joint.

If original wings, you need to drill out all the spot welds at wing rails under bonnet, down rear edge of wing on A-post and seam at the bottom of the wing (just in front of the sill bottom edge) with the front wheels off there is a spot welded seam just below the headlight bucket which joins the wing to the frontpanel awkward to get to.

Then there is a welded-brazed bit behind the headlight, remove headlight and bucket to get to, should also have a brazed join at bottom of screen pillar, also where hole is left after removing heaglight bucket there is a join in there
on bonnet side of wing where it joins to the frontpanel.

Think that's most of them, take your time and you should be ok, if you need to keep the wings take special care as
    near on £800 for replacements.........hth

ps-have a search on 105speed.com for more info

Why are you taking them off ?

Its something you should give careful consideration to before you launch in with a grinder as its far easier to cut them off than it is to get them back on.

Is it because they are rotten ? or are you taking them off to repair the A Pilar ?

If its to effect repairs then do one side at a time, they are a bitch to put back on and line up nicely at the best of times.

To do two wings and get them both the line up right with the front panel, the bonnet and each other across the front of the car is a devils own job.

If they are rotten, look at what repair panels are available before you start and see if they can be repaired in situ

A car with fibreglass wings is always worth less than a car with steel wings and there are many, myself included would never buy a car with fibreglass wings regardless of how well they've been fitted.

Re: Removing 105E Anglia front wings

    Thanks for the information.

I am taking them off due to the amount of rot. Not just in the wings but the strut tops, inner wings and wing rails. It might be difficult to re align them but because of the amount of rot I don't think I have a choice about taking them off and judging by the condition of the car I am expecting to find more rot in the A pilar.

Where is a good place to buy panels? I was looking at expressed steel but they are very expensive. Is there anywhere cheaper that do good quality panels? I don't want to put fibre glass wings on so I will have to repair the ones I've got.

You can by some repair panels from the Anglia Owners Club but basically Expressed Panels are the only place doing complete panels like wings etc. and yes they are expensive but short run panels with as much work in them as the Anglia wings have are always going to be expensive.

My advice would be if its that shit then look for another one, there are still plenty better cars out there to be had.

If you are going to press on with this one then do as many of the inner wing repairs as possible before you cut the outer wings off, this will hopefully keep as much of it as possible in the right place.

Re: Removing 105E Anglia front wings

Thanks for the advice. The front of the car seems to be the worst part so I am going to carry on with it but will repair as much as possible before removing the wings. I'll check out the Anglia Owners Club for panels as well but think I'll repair as much as i can rather than replace panels to keep the costs down.

Also I was thinking about putting a pinto in it as I have one from my escort but I have read a few times that its not a great engine choice. Is it really that bad of an engine choice for an Anglia?
