    Type 9 Bung

I frequently take the Type 9 gearbox out of my Mk1 Escort and am sick and tired of smelly and expensive oil dribbling out the back once the propshaft is removed. I have seen in another (old) thread a reference to a bung, sold on eBay, that stops the issue. Do these exist? Anybody got any links?

I know I could just go to the wreckers and see if I can match up an old prop end but I just don't have time for hunting around.

I just use an old prop spline from a sierra. They bolt to a cush drive so no cutting off a prop or anything. I must have thought they can be bought new etc.

I used cling film and duct tape to wrap the end...still get a bit messy but not half as bad

So i wasn't going mad myself then, I asked a similar question a few months ago an just got the answer of using a prop end.

    Re: Type 9 Bung

In Reality you just need any blocked off tube that is the same size as the OD of the prop and big enough to fit over the splines internally. The prop end is just an easy way of getting this cheaply.

Maybe the top off a pop bottle or aerosol maybe ?? if its the right OD. Just watch you don't damage the seal.

Good idea thanks. I wonder if a bit of rad hose blocked off would be about the same size, wouldn't think it'd be far off.

    Re: Type 9 Bung

If someone can put up the dimensions for this that would be very much appreciated
I would happily buy one but the cost of postage to Canada probably doesn't justify it, plus I have a buddy with a lathe and milling machine
    Cheers
