    Zetec RWD mounts - dimensions

    HI All
I need to cut some plate to manfacture my engine mounts and I'm asking if someone has the dimensions of the stud pattern to attach to the block?
I guess I could go an measure myself but as the holes are at various heights it may not be as accurate as I was hoping. Someone who has a set of custom RWD mounts handy might be able to get very accurate dimensions for me
    Cheers

    Paul

How did you go about making yours Trig ?

I know i'm hijacking but it's something i want to do and although know how to make the engine side i've been wondering how you work out how long they need to be ?

I haven't got the engine in yet and want to make everything before i start to fit which makes it hard to measure ?

Do these move the engine forward slightly for extra clearance behind the head (from the original bulk-head)?

I will more than ikely move mine forward approx 15mm for this reason compared to the original Pinto position.

Re: Zetec RWD mounts - dimensions

The engine is as far forward as the sump will let it, its just a few mill off the crossmember, I trimed the lip from the bulkhead/heater dome just in case(it was a little rusty anyhow). you can install the rubber mount retainer anywhere on the engine plate you like but I think you will find the sump will dictate the final position, both in the distance from the crossmember and the steering rack mounts (which can be lowered). I will dig out a pic of the crossmender clearence this weekend. I have attached a pic of the install.

I will be modifying an original Mondeo alloy sump so I'm not dictated by that.

Savvi, its from a focus st170 with honda fireblade throttle bodys.
Zetec RS, that should give you lots of scope for positioning. Sorry I couldnt find my sump pics.

Well - I'm feeling inspired so I bolted the Zetec to the Celica box and in it went I need to use the OEM manifold and ECU for engineering.

Just need to sort out the mounts we've been discussing

    Thanks for the replies!

Re: Zetec RWD mounts - dimensions

I believe the focus inlet is shorter than a mondeo, when I did mine, the mondeo manifold was touching the cross member where the engine mount sits, but I was going the bike throttle bodys any way. I think TEX in Sydney was fitting one with focus manifold. If you use chassis mounts that will give you even more options with your sump.

The Focus unit still hits the mounts so it's the WCXM style now

    Hi Trig

No, a mob here in Aus make adapter kits (bell housing etc) to put Celica boxes behind anything from the Pinto to a Holden V8.

I wrecked another car which had this conversion (box, bell housing, tailshaft) behind a Pinto so it was a no-brainer to drop in the Zetec as it bolted straight up

    Hi Trig

It's not an adapter plate but a complete Bell housing to adapt the Celica box.

The W50 box is from an early (78-81) Toyota Celica and the supplier of the bell housing is Dellow Automotive.

    Hi
These are the ones I came up with and using on my Zetec.
You just need to machine small spacers for the exh side mount to clear the block casting.

I appreciate this is an incredibly old thread, but does anyone have the measurements ( length and angle) for the box section from the mounting plate to the rubber bush?

    Thanks

its a bit of a compound angle from memory. i made a jig and knocked up several sets and i am not sure you could do it without a jig or welding the wedges in place while in car as a small movement on base plate moves it all out size wise ..............

Best bet is to test fit the engine/box using wood blocks or similar to get the desired position, adjust the position and then measure and tack up your mounts.
