Its good gas i've used a few bottles of it, not cheap from the halfrauds tho Why would the weld last 10 seconds?

I think he means the gas runs out quick.
I have used them, and got on fine with them. In fact I quite liked welding with them.
Machine Mart seems to be a bit better value. I think there is more in a bottle. What to do with the empty bottles is a bit of a problem. ( Iwas thinking bonfire and see if there are any bits left after that )

i've found halfords bottles seem to run out faster despite being the same weight as the ones i get from my local tool hire shop, dunno why.

i paid £16 from halfords which isnt great, but if i had to drive to edinburghs machine mart i would need to put in a tenner of petrol to get there so it kind of evens itself out

b an q are cheaper than some places surpizingly, well at least where i am.

Tried machine mart bottles but couldnt get anything out of them for ages! Never using them again.

If your doing loads of welding it could be cheaper in the long run to by a big bottle from BOC, thats what im going to do soon as im always buying the little ones and its costing me more than a big one. Little ones are convienient though.

Thing is, a bottle full of gas from BOC isn't badly priced - but the yearly rental on top makes it a lot less attractive unless you're doing enough to warrant a couple of fills.

And you need a different regulator.

Nearest Machine Mart is 34 miles away so I'm in the same boat as psmk2 - b&q or halfrauds.

You could save a bit of money by getting a pub style small gas cylinder and get it filled off another bottle at a local pub/workshop.

Those dissposible C02 ones seem like such a waste, must be a few pence worth of gas inside, if even that.

    Something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CO2-GAS-BOTTLE...d=p3286.c0.m14

trouble is not knowing anyone to get a fill up from, i have an oxyacetalyne set up in the garage, but short of getting myself an acount cant get the empty oxy bottle filled up, i'd have the same problem with bigger bottles for a welder.

You could also try a local fire extinguisher supplyer, some have the equipment to test and refill c02.

Or one of these which could work out slightly better than the disposable ones if you have a sealey dealer close by.

failing the fire extinguisher route get yourself off to your local beer surpliers ans get a bottle of them. i got one for £16 and a refill costs £16 you just pop the bottle back.

    cheers terry
