    Rover 100 project

Havent visited this forum since I sold my series 1, but im trying to decide on what to make my next project. Thinking of returning to Ford.

This project was meant to be a quick job, using a scrap mgf Ive had on the drive for a while and picking up a cheap metro. Put the two together and flog it on after a bit of fun, but its go a bit carried away with itself. Its pretty much complete now.

Lumps out of a vvc mgf, lsd gearbox from a brm rover and a lightened flywheel. should be about 150hp.

Some nice handiwork there though I'm not sure I understand the logic behind removing the engine from a RWD mid engine chassis that handles well and fitting it in a FWD one that doesn't. Was the MGF rotten?

Have you ever driven one? Or just listened to the hearsay from others? I owned one for three years, I may have just been lucky as I've heard of the head gasket problems that others have had but it never let me down once and my experience of it was that it could be driven as hard as any escort I've owned.

    Re: Rover 100 project

I had a GTa 1.4 and it was pretty rapid. The car seemed well built and handled pretty well. We took it to france on holiday with 3 kids in the back, roof box and full of luggage and it never missed a beat! We came home with the car full of wine and beer as well. Admittedly the kids were little then so space wasnt an issue.
Move on a few years and I bought a rover 100 kensington 5 door diesel .What a heap of crap!! The engine fell out on the motorway on the way to my mums once. I limped to a garage in preston and traded it in for a Citroen BX and carried on my way in that.
The earlier rover models seemed much better built than the austin ones, but the last of them were so badly put together it was no wonder they fell apart.

    Re: Rover 100 project

should have kept it standard and just put the motor in. Would have been a right laugh

i agree that Metros handle fookin well for what they are. Used to love driving them when i was a mechanic in the early nineties. Remember the turbo ones??

    Re: Rover 100 project

I had 2 metro's back in the day while i was building other cars and they were both mega fun to drive but completely mingin wrecks. Think i had the rat look 15 years early! Never really boke down tho

Small peppy engines + go cart handling + worthless car = big fun! Like yours BTW, bet its rapid thru the bends

Love this car, nothing fancy lookswise but has some go.
