Question Blacktop Zetec and alloy upper sump

Hello, hopefully someone can answer my question.

Im building up my blacktop Zetec for my Mk1 Escort thats got the retoford world cup cross member, and i really need to keep the aluminium upper sump. Is this possible, and does anyone know or is anyone on here able to modify the steel part?

    Many thanks

Generally no! To get the sump shallow enough to fit over the x-member you have to mill off virtually all of the integral windage tray then have to flat plate it. Easier to get a purpose made or modified sump IMO.

Hi I have just fitted a blacktop into my mk1 and to be honest the retro ford alloy sump is the way to go.

Blacktop Zetec and alloy upper sump

As above. The alloy can be used in kit car etc with no xmember but even then the steel part needs modding

Thanks guys. I did have my eye on the retro Ford one, but im building a zetec turbo so will have to get a oil return installed.

    Thanks again

No need to go to sump - there is a crankcase breather, exhaust side, that could be modded to take turbo drain?

That's a good point, easily above the oil height and no messing about with the new sump. I need to read up on the breather requirements for a zetec turbo.
